Assistant Professor of Conflict Resolution (Tenure-Track)
The George Mason University School for Conflict Analysis and Resolution (S-CAR) invites applications for a tenure-track position as Assistant Professor of Conflict Resolution. The position begins late August 2017. The School for Conflict Analysis and Resolution is committed to the development of theory, research and practice that generate new and innovative approaches to conflict analysis, resolution and transformation. Having established the world's first M.S. program in conflict resolution in 1983, S-CAR is home to degree programs at the B.A./B.S., M.S., Ph.D., and Certificate levels and has an affiliate M.S. program in Malta. With four vibrant centers and multiple projects and programs, S-CAR faculty and students are engaged in significant research and practice worldwide; nationally; and locally, in the Washington, D.C., metro area. The responsibilities for this position include:
- Teaching two courses per semester (including undergraduate instruction);
- Maintaining an active research and/or practice agenda;
- Participating in curricular development and other service activities; and
- Contributing to the School's intellectual life.
The School for Conflict Analysis and Resolution seeks highly qualified applicants whose work strengthens or complements the School's current offerings. Candidates with expertise in any subfield will be considered. Several areas are of particular interest, including: engaged scholarship; organizational or multiparty conflict resolution; critical peacebuilding; and conflict and its resolution in relation to gender, environment, poverty/inequality or arts/media. The School is interested in candidates who engage directly with today's real-world conflicts through intervention, advocacy, consultation, evaluation and other forms of practice. S-CAR invites applicants from a variety of academic disciplines or interdisciplinary backgrounds, and representing various methodological and regional areas of expertise, both domestic and international. Applicants should have completed their doctoral degree or plan to defend their dissertation by August 1, 2017.
Salary: Commensurate with education and experience.
