Posting Summary: Intramural-Recreational Sports, a Division of UVA Athletics, is seeking qualified part-time instructors to teach and/or lead group exercise classes or fitness classes/workshops catering to University faculty, staff and members. This is an opportunity to be part of the UVA "Hoo's Well" employee health and wellness programming initiative along with a wide-range of other fitness programming.
Instructors are responsible for fully engaging participants in vibrant activities that promote fitness and wellness; correctly modifying movements for participant safety; effectively communicating; and exemplary customer service.
Teaching formats could include any of the following: cycling, Zumba, yoga, Pilates, strength, step, weight loss, wellness, water exercise, dance, T'ai Chi, etc. Instructors typically teach one to two times per week early mornings, mid-day, or evenings. A national group exercise instructor certification such as AFAA, ACE, NETA, ACSM, etc. is required.
Required Minimum Level of Education: High School Diploma or Equivalent Not Required
Required Minimum Level of Experience: Some - up to 4 years
Required Specific Experience: Some experience teaching and/or leading group exercise classes or fitness classes/workshops.
Required License or Certification: Nationally recognized group exercise instructor certification through AFAA, ACE, NETA, ACSM, etc. or equivalent.
Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities: Demonstrated knowledge and competency instructing group exercise or fitness classes/workshops, effective communication and exemplary customer service skills.
