Posting Summary: The University of Virginia department of Information Technology Services (ITS) Enterprise Storage and Computing Systems group seeks an individual with strong enterprise computing platforms security background. Primary responsibilities will be the design and maintenance of a robust security stance for an enterprise hosting Windows and Linux servers. The engineer will develop and maintain the appropriate documentation related to the securing of the operating systems and common applications. The engineer will be responsible for handling small to medium projects and producing related operational documentation.
Required Minimum Level of Education: *Degree or Equivalent Experience Required
Required Specific Degree/Training: Bachelor's degree plus four years of computing experience or a combination of relevant education, experience and training.
Preferred Minimum Level of Education: *Degree Preferred
Preferred Specific Degree/Training: Master's Degree in Computer Science or a combination of relevant education, experience and training.
Required Minimum Level of Experience: Considerable - 4 to 7 years
Required Specific Experience: Prior experience as technical lead on small to medium projects, including participation in defining project scope, time lines, resources required, communications, etc. Demonstrated high level technical expertise diagnosing and troubleshooting hardware and software failures. Experience working individually as well as in a team structure.
Experience working with cyber security technology in an enterprise environment.
Significant experience managing and securing. Windows and/or Linux Servers, and common applications for that platform.
Preferred Minimum Level of Experience: Extensive - 7 years plus
Preferred Specific Experience: Experience evaluating, planning & implementing best practice security in an enterprise server environment. Development and management of server and application security and standards. Creation and maintenance of operating and application build checklists.
Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities: Microsoft Windows and/or Linux Server Administration and security oversight.
Installation of server security agents and knowledge of their purpose and use. Expertise in log analysis, and what log content should be retained.
Demonstrated ability to communicate high level complex technical information to a generalist audience both verbally and in writing. In-depth knowledge of, and experience with, enterprise computing systems operating systems and common applications.
Preferred Knowledge, Skills and Abilities: Demonstrated ability hardening Windows and Linux enterprise systems, creating security standards documentation and working with common cyber security tools. Experience hardening Active Directory. Design and implementation of a privilege segmentation strategy in a hybrid Linux/Windows environment. Hands on experience with an enterprise SIEM.
