| Posting Summary: The Department of Emergency Medicine at the University of Virginia seeks applicants for multiple tenure-eligible or tenure-ineligible faculty positions. We seek highly motivated and talented EM Physicians with specific interest in the administration of management, training, and leadership involving emergency medicine and critical care medicine. The selected individuals will work with faculty members and the Chair on research, instruction, and the application of emergency medicine and critical care medicine. These positions carry faculty appointments in the School of Medicine at the University of Virginia, and will include clinical hours within the department of emergency medicine and within the intensive care units. Rank and tenure status are dependent upon qualifications. |
Critical care opportunities will include the provision of care of patients with surgical, medical, cardiovascular, trauma, or neurological needs. There will be significant opportunities for direct patient care as well as the supervision and teaching of medical students, residents, and fellows. Assignment to specific areas of critical care is flexible and will be determined by mutual agreement based on prior experience of the applicant.
Faculty will also have protected time to support scholarly pursuits. Applicants must be interested in advancing their academic career by joining a diverse and highly accomplished faculty. The successful candidate will demonstrate a desire to excel clinically and pursue research and leadership opportunities for professional development.
Candidates must have an M.D. or D.O. and be board-eligible or board-certified by the American Board of Emergency Medicine or the American Osteopathic Board of Emergency Medicine. The successful applicants must be emergency medicine residency trained and have completed fellowship training in Critical Care Medicine. Applicants must also be board-eligible or board-certified in Critical Care Medicine by the American Board of Internal Medicine, American Board of Surgery or the American Board of Anesthesiology.
The Department of Emergency Medicine has a significant training commitment. There is an established emergency medicine residency program and there are fellowships in Medical Toxicology, EMS, Cardiovascular Emergencies, Ultrasound, Trauma and Education. The UVA Health System is a 700 bed tertiary care and Level 1 trauma center with an annual census of 60,000 located at the foot of the Blue Ridge Mountains in Charlottesville, Virginia, a city that has consistently been rated as one of the best places to live in the U.S.
