The Associate Director of Development (ADOD), Cancer Programs is responsible for identifying, cultivating, soliciting, and stewarding patients, families and friends to support the Health System through major gifts ($100,000 and above). He/she will serve as the lead fundraiser for specific cancer programs. In this work, the ADOD will establish partnerships of trust with physicians and nurses who have provided the care for which our patient benefactors are grateful. The ADOD's work will uphold patient confidentiality and conform to the highest ethical standards, honoring the relationship between patient and healthcare provider.
The ideal candidate will have demonstrated success and experience in fundraising. Major gift fundraising experience is preferred. He/she will possess exceptional interpersonal skills with the ability to interact effectively with major gifts prospects, fundraising colleagues, academic leaders, faculty, alumni, and volunteers. The ability to travel and to work occasional nights and weekends is required.
Reporting to the Director of Development, Cancer Programs, the ADOD will be an integral member of the cancer fundraising team, comprised of the Director, two Associate Directors of Development, an Assistant Director of Development and a Development Associate, and will work closely with other colleagues across the Health System Development Office.
UVA Health System includes a Medical Center, School of Medicine, and School of Nursing. The Medical Center includes a 584-bed hospital, level I trauma center, nationally recognized cancer and heart centers, and primary and specialty clinics throughout Central Virginia. Required Minimum Level of Experience: Some - up to 4 years
Required Specific Experience: Fundraising experience and/or experience in a related client-focused field.
Preferred Minimum Level of Experience: Considerable - 4 to 7 years
Preferred Specific Experience: Experience in healthcare fundraising. Major gift fundraising experience preferred, as well as previous work in or familiarity with an academic medical center or healthcare environment.
Required License or Certification: Driver's license
