This position is to supervise, direct and coordinate the technical and non-technical aspects of the laboratory work, perform independent lab studies on brain development in mouse models of Down syndrome, and support the ongoing biomedical research in the lab working closely with graduate and postdoctoral students under the supervision of the Principal Investigator. Duties include but are not necessarily limited to 1) increase efficiency with the current funding in the lab, manage billing and payment procedures, order, track and organize lab supplies, oversee laboratory safety, manage inventories, provide support for scheduled meetings or seminars, external collaboration with vendors, basic laboratory maintenance including machine maintenance, and reporting in a timely and accurate manner, 2) Standard neuroscience-related histology, performing animal husbandry and quantitative PCR and RT-PCR to genotype animals, transcardiac perfusion in rodents, DNA maxipreps and minipreps, vibratome sectioning, brain tissue microdissection, immunohistochemistry and assisting with animal surgery. In addition, the position could include independent work pursuing several research projects using advanced techniques, such as in utero survival surgery in mouse and rodent neurobehavioral measures. 3) Organize and maintain laboratory safety issues, including chemical and radioisotope inventories and reporting requirements for these substances as well as organizing and overseeing maintenance of a laboratory database of tissue samples and recombinant DNA. Required Skills: Must have a Bachelors degree, and higher education certificate is a plus. Relevant experience in administrative skills and achieving targets. In addition to classroom training, must have direct experience with the cellular and molecular techniques mentioned above as well as experience in developmental neurobiology. Direct experience or knowledge of in utero electroporation necessary. Must also have proficiency in Excel and experience with business management software.
