Celebrating its 10th year of entrepreneurial programming, Rowan University invites applications for the William G. Rohrer Professorial Chair in Entrepreneurship from candidates who can meet the current associate or full professor requirements at Rowan University. The position is projected to start in fall 2017. Rowan University is located in Southern New Jersey, which is part of the Greater Philadelphia Region.
The Rohrer College of Business, which is fully accredited by AACSB, has approximately 1,700 undergraduate and masters? level students. Princeton Review ranks the College of Business as one of the nation?s best 295 business schools. Bloomberg Businessweek ranked the College undergraduate program as 112 in the nation for 2016.
In the role of Executive Director of the Center for Innovation and Entrepreneurship, the Chair reports and is accountable to the Dean of the Rohrer College of Business. In other areas, the Chair reports to the Chairperson of the Management and Entrepreneurship Department, which is one of three academic departments within the College of Business.
While the Chair is housed in the Rohrer College of Business, the successful candidate will embrace and lead a vision that goes well beyond business, engaging faculty and students from across disciplines and expanding the definition of entrepreneurship to include the development of an entrepreneurial mindset. The Chair will serve as the Executive Director of the Rowan University Center for Innovation and Entrepreneurship, which is built on this vision.
The Center houses Rowan University?s Entrepreneurship Across the Campus initiative, as well as its newly opened Hatch House, both jointly sponsored by the Colleges of Business, Engineering, and Science & Mathematics and available to all Rowan students, faculty and staff. Among other activities, the Center:
runs venture competitions, student mentor and accelerator programs, and hosts the CEO club;
sponsors a faculty innovation and entrepreneurship certification program;
encourages entrepreneurship research and supports the acquisition of related funding;
works closely with Rowan?s $5M Innovation Venture Fund;
is affiliated with the South Jersey Technology Park, housed on the Rowan campus; and
is an active contributor to the Greater Philadelphia entrepreneurship community.
The Chair will be an excellent teacher who actively engages and excites students. He/she will teach a limited number of courses in the entrepreneurship major and minor; coordinate ongoing curriculum development; stay current with innovative business models, success stories in entrepreneurship, venture investment network opportunities, and best practices in strategy and technology; and facilitate the assessment of curricular and co-curricular entrepreneurially focused activities.
The Chair will be a researcher in the area of innovation or entrepreneurship, with an established or growing reputation and a track record of successfully acquiring grant funding that can help support and expand the Center and its activities. The successful candidate will have productive and ongoing relationships with active researchers and/or those in leadership roles at other educational institutions, foundations and government funding bodies.
The Chair will become an active member of the regional entrepreneurship community, identifying and engaging entrepreneurs and others in the life of the Center and capitalizing on the many vibrant entrepreneurially focused activities in the Greater Philadelphia Region and beyond.
Applicants must have a Ph.D. degree in a Business related field, or an equivalent terminal degree, and a record of demonstrated leadership in teaching and student engagement, scholarship and service in entrepreneurship.
In this role, proven success as a named professor, endowed chair, program director, or other relevant leadership roles is a strong plus.
The position will be available September 1, 2017. The salary is competitive and commensurate with qualifications and experience. Compensation consists of a base salary plus an annual supplement for the endowed chair, with a five-year appointment (renewable based on performance).
