POSTDOCTORAL FELLOW POSITIONS OPENINGS
POSTDOCTORAL FELLOWS TO STUDY NORMAL EPITHELIAL STEM CELLS, EPITHELIAL CANCER STEM CELLS AND STROMAL AND EPITHELIAL INTERACTIONS IN GYNECOLOGIC ORGANS
Funded positions are available immediately in the laboratory of Sanaz Memarzadeh M.D., Ph.D. Professor in Gynecologic Oncology in the David Geffen School of Medicine. This laboratory (G.O. Discovery Laboratory: www.godiscoverylab.com), located at the UCLA Broad Stem Cell Research Center in the Terasaki Life Science building, is also affiliated with the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology, David Geffen School of Medicine at UCLA, the Jonsson Comprehensive Cancer Center, the Eli and Edythe Broad Stem Cell Research Center and the Molecular Biologic Institute at UCLA.
The research programs in this laboratory focus on:
- Targeting of therapy resistant ovarian and endometrial cancer cells with a major focus on eliminating cancer stem cells. This laboratory has access to clinical specimens from the operating rooms at UCLA. The G.O. Discovery team has already identified therapeutic targets that are moving into clinical trials for ovarian cancer patients.
- Understanding the role of epithelial and stromal interactions in gynecologic cancers with a focus on the role of hormonal signaling in this process.
- Defining the genetic changes that induce ovarian and endometrial cancers with a focus on finding better tolerated and more effective treatments for patients.
Highly motivated, hard-working recent Ph.D. or M.D. graduates with a strong record of publication in molecular biology; cellular biology and immunology are welcome to apply for this position. Applications are particularly encouraged from candidates who have experience in microscopy, immunohistochemistry, FACS analysis, handling of primary cells, virology and small animal surgical procedures. Outstanding oral and written communication skills are needed in order to communicate with the PI, other scientists and clinical collaborators.
This laboratory is located within a new building at the UCLA main campus, blocks away from Westwood Village. Westwood is a beautiful area with multiple attractions including a variety of restaurants, theaters, coffee shops and stores. The weather is fantastic, with temperatures generally in the 70s or 80s. Reasonably priced housing is available in the area.
