The salary range for this position is 3,897 to 6,142 per month. Starting salary placement depends on qualifications, experience and salary budget, and will not exceed 3,975 per month.

Conditions of Employment
This is a full time, exempt position, which will lead toward permanent status following the successful completion of a probationary period.
Working independently under the general direction of the Senior Director of Records, Reporting & Analytics, the incumbent performs varied administrative, technical, and analytical duties on behalf of the Office of Records, Reporting & Analytics in specific and Academic Affairs in general. This position will have a special emphasis in supporting data analysis and reporting needs for both the Chancellor's Office as well as University Scheduling and Faculty Affairs. Additionally, this position will provide general administrative, technical and analytical support to various University constituents as assigned by the Senior Director of Records, Reporting & Analytics.
The incumbent interprets and applies complex policies and procedures and is required to assess, formulate, and evaluate the impact of recommended or implemented policies from a strategic and operational perspective. In addition, the incumbent identifies administrative needs and develops appropriate solutions or recommendations to said needs. The incumbent will coordinate the collection, retrieval, and storage of data relevant to projects assigned; analyzing data and making accurate projections using advanced methods and procedures for statistical analysis. The incumbent will design, implement and monitor data retrieval solutions in relevant campus administrative systems; managing the data produced in manner consistent to its sensitivity. The incumbent will perform statistical analysis by utilizing enrollment data to aggregate, interpret, apply and present complex data in response to information request from all areas of campus, the Chancellor's Office, Federal and State agencies.
The incumbent will also be responsible for system wide reporting processes and procedures up to and including submission. This includes, but is not limited to, data collection and data clean-up for the Enrollment Reporting System, Academic Planning Database, and system wide Attachment reports B-P. In addition, the incumbent will serve as the prime contact for corresponding with other CSU campuses on system wide reporting functionality, will identify data elements for setting goals for future PeopleSoft upgrades; and will report problems to CMS campus lead.
The incumbent will serve as a liaison between the Office of Institutional Research &
University Scheduling and requesting campus constituencies in support of existing and proposed grant projects; establishing and maintaining effective working relationships and facilitating project coordination. The incumbent will generate and publish reports derived from statistical analysis of data supplied by campus administrative systems as needed by said constituencies. Where possible, the incumbent will assist campus constituencies in the process of learning to utilize campus administrative systems to pull relevant data sets as needed by said constituencies.

Normal hours of operation are Monday through Friday, 8:00am - 5:00pm. Duties take place mostly in an office setting located in Stevenson Hall on the Sonoma State University campus. As an exempt employee, the Institutional Research Analyst has some flexibility in work schedule, but must be available during regular campus hours and maintain acceptable attendance at such levels as is determined by the Appropriate Administrator, including the University's commencement day which is regularly scheduled for one Saturday in May. Some travel that requires overnight stays may be required.
Bachelor's degree and/or equivalent training and administrative work experience involving study, analysis, and/or evaluation leading to the development or improvement of administrative policies, procedures, practices, or programs, preferably in a data analysis related field. Previous experience that provides evidence of understanding of basic statistical techniques, and/or data analysis in higher education is preferred.
Knowledge of the advanced methods and procedures for research and statistical analysis and the ability to apply them. Ability to analyze data and make accurate projections using basic statistical techniques. Ability to organize, planning both work and projects, including handling multiple priorities. Ability to make independent decisions and exercise sound judgment. Demonstrated ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships within and outside the work group and serve as a liaison for the Office of Institutional Research and Scheduling. General knowledge of University structure and specific knowledge of enrollment management, institutional research, and/or university scheduling preferred.
Requires advanced computer proficiency in all elements of Microsoft Office, working knowledge and use of PeopleSoft query, familiarity with secure file transfer methods, and the ability to rapidly learn relevant computer software programs.
The successful candidate must possess the ability to communicate on all levels with various individuals and groups in order to assess needs and provide appropriate support; maintain confidentiality and integrity of files; use business mathematics and advanced statistical techniques; independently learn, interpret, and apply a wide variety of policies and procedures and use substantial judgment and discretion to act when precedents do not exist; effectively organize tasks and apply strong attention to detail skills; make independent decisions and exercise sound judgment; use discretion when distributing information; understand problems from a broader perspective and anticipate the impact of problems on other areas; analyze operational and procedural problems and develop, recommend, and evaluate proposed solutions; use negotiation and persuasion skills to achieve results and expedite projects; work independently and as part of a team; maintain regular and acceptable punctuality and attendance; and establish and maintain cooperative working relationships within and outside of the work group. This position requires the physical ability to sit and keyboard for up to 8 hours a day; speak and hear clearly; and have good close vision.
