Summary Description: The Center for Computational Biology and Bioinformatics (C2B2) and Taub Institute for Research on Alzheimer's Disease and the Aging Brain at Columbia University Medical Center invite applications for a Postdoctoral Research Scientist position in computational genetics and bioinformatics.The candidate is expected to work on major collaborative projects on the genetics of neurological diseases using start-of-art genomic approaches. Specific roles include leading the analysis of high-throughput genotyping and sequencing data to map disease genes, participating population- and family- based genetic study designs, and developing novel methods in statistical genetics and computational genomics. The candidate will have a joint appointment in C2B2 and the Taub Institute. C2B2 (http://www.c2b2.columbia.edu/) is a vibrant hub for innovative research in the interface between computational sciences and biology. The postdoc fellows will benefit from interactions with groups of computational and experimental biologists who study biomedical problems using high-throughput, quantitative and systems approaches. The Taub Institute for Research on Alzheimer's Disease and the Aging Brain focus on translational research of neurological disorders and aging, with strong teams of researchers in neurology, epidemiology, statistical genetics, molecular genetics, and pathology.
Minimum Qualifications: - PhD in a relevant field, such as statistical genetics, bioinformatics, statistics or computer science.- Significant experience with large-scale computational and statistical analysis.- Effective communication; ability to work in a collaborative environment.- Enjoy solving difficult problems.
Preferred Qualifications: -Experience in human genetics of either Mendelian or complex diseases. -Deep experience with large-scale population- or family- based genetic studies and/or next-generation sequence datasets.-Established publication track record.-Strong programming skills in both general-purpose languages (e.g. C/C++, Ruby, Perl) and scientific computing (e.g. R, MATLAB).
