Summary Description: Columbia University, Department of Dermatology, invites applications for a position at the Staff Associate level. The Staff Associate will work in an immunology and dermatology laboratory investigating cell signaling and the immune response. S/he will work closely with the PI in research projects directed toward understanding the cell biology of inflammation with the goal of revealing new therapeutic approaches for inflammatory and autoimmune disease. The incumbent will also assist the PI in overseeing the activities of a lab technician; will perform lab management duties including generating and ordering reagents; will maintain laboratory inventories; and will be expected to maintain detailed records of all lab activities including the experiments that s/he will perform.
Minimum Qualifications: Bachelor's Degree in biological sciences plus at least four years basic molecular biology and cell culture experience required. Experience with liquid chromatography (HPLC/FPLC) and recombinant protein production and purification preferred. Ability to develop and learn new techniques as required for these studies. Excellent organization, problem-solving and communication skills required and the ability to work independently and collaboratively needed. Candidates must have strong interest in investigative dermatology research and publishing.
Preferred Qualifications: Master's degree preferred. Subspecialties, field of research, and department needs will determine preferred qualifications.
