The Assessment Specialist/Statistician is an administrative faculty position in the Office of Assessment in the Department of Academic Affairs. The position reports to the Assistant Dean for Assessment and works as part of the leadership team to advance assessment and continuous quality improvement in support of the school?s mission of excellence in education and in accordance with accreditation standards. This position collaborates in the design and implementation of effective systems for evaluation and provides statistical expertise in the evaluation of educational programs and student learning. The position manages large longitudinal datasets, conducts analyses, interprets outcomes and generates reports and recommendations on data related to program quality, student competence, and school-level graduate outcomes. This critical position requires multi-tasking, an ability to meet competing demands, and work under tight deadlines.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Collaborate in identifying innovative assessment best practices and provide technical input into the selection, design and development of assessments that measure student competence/learning and program effectiveness.
Provide statistical expertise in the analysis, interpretation and reporting of outcome data related to program and instructional quality, student competence, school-level graduate outcomes, and other metrics needed to support school decisions and meet accreditation standards.
Build and manage large datasets, maintain the systematic collection and data entry of longitudinal student admissions and performance data, national testing data, match results and graduate outcomes, and ensures the accuracy and quality of data through careful monitoring.
Collaborate as part of the dashboard development team to design visual analytics, student performance profile and related dashboards.
Prepare and present data results using charts, tables, and graphics.
Prepare narrative reports with recommendations for the school, accrediting bodies, and key stakeholders.
Work with the Program Evaluation and Student Assessment (PESA) Committee in curriculum review and the exam review process in order to improve instructional and program quality and ensure the quality of student performance measures.
Design and administer assessment instruments, rubrics, and other tools (e.g. OSCEs, surveys, questionnaires, evaluation tools) that measure outcomes and yield data for continuous improvement.
Collaborate in the development and implementation of SOM's learning assessment plan and document implementation activities and progress toward achieving program and school goals.
Assist with research projects within the school and across institutions, provide statistical and research expertise to support PESA and faculty research related to assessment and educational practices.
Train faculty in effective assessment methodology, tools, data collection and the use of data to support learning.
Maintain current knowledge regarding assessment requirements of accreditation agencies and monitors performance against expected standards.
Participate in professional development activities to keep current in the field of medical education, assessment, evaluation and research methodologies.
Utilize academic and curriculum management systems that support data gathering and reporting.
Utilize computerized systems for the collection, summary and distribution of assessment data.
Assist with special projects and performs other related duties as assigned.
Serve on committees as assigned.

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE: Master's Degree required, a PhD or EdD preferred in the fields of educational assessment, measurement, social sciences, or a related field. A minimum of two (2) years of related experience in outcomes-based program and learner assessment, preferably in a higher education or medical school setting required. Expertise in the principles of educational assessment, statistical analysis and research methods using parametric and non-parametric techniques and qualitative and quantitative methods required. Experience should include data collection, management of large datasets, data analysis and interpretation; and report preparation. Proficiency in the use of statistical software (SPSS preferred), databases, spreadsheets, pivot charts and Microsoft Office Suite required. Knowledge of Blackboard and curriculum management systems (one45 preferred) a plus. Demonstrated accuracy, attention to detail and maintenance of high standard of integrity required. Strong organizational skills, ability to multi-task in order to meet competing deadlines, and excellent written, oral and presentation communication skills required. Demonstrated ability to work independently and efficiently, as well as work effectively in a team environment collaborating with co-workers, faculty, administrators, and constituencies at all levels of the organization is essential.
