Duties and Responsibilities:
The Center for Advanced Computing and Data Systems (CACDS) at the University of Houston (UH) is actively seeking an enthusiastic HPC Application Specialist to work with faculty/staff on targeted large-scale life science, chemistry, and engineering projects focusing specifically on the use of GPU's and accelerators to optimize HPC performance in these research endeavors. The main job responsibilities include:
1) Porting non-GPU code to run on GPU's
2) Design and optimize applications' workflow and pipelines;
3) Parallelize and optimize application through different programming models and languages;
4) Performance analysis;
5) Participate in the development of funding proposals, publications and reports.

Minimum Qualifications: PhD in mathematics, engineering or sciences discipline and 2 years of relevant experience with GPU application development and optimization, or
MS in mathematics, engineering or sciences discipline and 5 years of relevant experience with GPU application development and optimization.
The candidate should have strong system and application optimization skills including:Architecture and Micro-architecture knowledge of CPU, GPU, and heterogeneous systems;
Hand-on experience with scientific code development and optimization based on GPU;
Strong programming skills using C/C++, Fortran, CUDA, along with excellent problem-solving and debugging abilities;
Extensive experience with programming models including OpenACC, OpenMP, and MPI;
Experience with commercial and academic HPC application packages (AMBER, Gromacs, VASP, Gaussian, etc);
Experience with software workloads, benchmarking, and bottleneck / performance analysis;
Extensive experience with Unix/Linux systems, shell scripts, and open source software.
The successful applicant should have the ability to work in a team oriented, collaborative environment and manage multiple projects simultaneously. Excellent communication and technical writing skills are a must.
