The salary range for this position is $16.09 to $25.36 an hour. Starting salary placement depends on qualifications, experience and salary budget and will not exceed $17.00 an hour. Benefits include vacation, sick, and holiday time earned in relation to hours worked.

Conditions of Employment
This is a part time, temporary, non-exempt position scheduled to provide additional support July 1 to September 30. Reappointment to this position is dependent upon the individual's performance as well as administrative and budgetary considerations. The university reserves the right to terminate this appointment earlier than the scheduled expiration date.
Under the general supervision of the Green Music Center Associate Director of Facilities Operations, the incumbent will provide assistance in moves and set-ups for events, as well as general upkeep of the campus buildings and grounds. This position requires heavy, physical, manual labor to move furniture and equipment. The incumbent will be required to use tools, climb ladders, operate powered equipment used in moves, and perform general cleaning and power spraying.
The Laborer typically performs work involving some or all of the following duties: lift and move heavy objects such as furniture, equipment, materials, and supplies; assist in campus event set-up and special meetings; load and unload furniture equipment, supplies, and materials; clean assigned areas, including such activities as removing construction debris; clean gutters, culverts, and other drainage structures; power wash assigned areas; clean roadsides, streets, and related areas; clean applicable equipment and assist in other cleaning projects; remove and haul waste and recyclables from areas of central aggregation, special events, and special clean-up sites; assist crafts and construction workers by performing unskilled tasks such as preparing work areas; perform rough repair work; tear down structures; patch pavement; and perform pick and shovel work; assist in grounds maintenance; operate and perform basic preventative maintenance on appropriate hand and powered equipment and tools, supplies, and materials; use motor vehicles to transport and deliver heavy or other hard to move items.
The Green Music Center is a high profile public venue, with worldwide visibility. The incumbent works with a diverse population and workforce and must be service oriented and fiscally responsible. The incumbent must have the ability to establish and maintain cooperative working relationships; work effectively both independently and as part of a team; prioritize and perform all work efficiently and effectively; and provide strong customer service to students, staff, faculty, and campus visitors. Incumbent schedules time off to ensure the University's needs are met and appropriate coverage is addressed during personal time off.
Performs other secondary duties as assigned, including picking up supplies for trades at vendors/businesses; supporting the trade shops in doing project work; and inspecting student housing for condition assessment.
Sonoma State University consists of over 2 million square feet of building space of various construction types and ages. The incumbent must be prepared to work in a variety of environments on the Sonoma State University campus including, but not limited to, mechanical rooms, crawl spaces, attics, basements, outdoors and in areas with limited light. The climate in some of the facilities can be cold, hot, and noisy. Some facilities are three stories high. The Laborer may be required to work on projects that require long periods of standing, stooping, kneeling, and lifting up to 75 lbs.
The work schedule for the Laborer position will require working a varied schedule, including but not limited to evenings, weekends, early mornings, holidays, and other non-standard times based on venue usage and performance scheduling. Overtime, evening and weekend hours will be required and will be specified only by the Appropriate Administrator to meet operational needs.
The Laborer requires the physical ability to lift, carry, and transport heavy objects up to 75 lbs on a continuous basis; climb ladders; crawl into confined spaces; stoop, bend, stand for long periods of times; and regularly use arms, hands, and fingers. In addition:
- Must possess the ability and willingness to do strenuous manual labor;
- Must possess the ability to lift heavy furniture and equipment in a safe manner;
- Must possess the ability to use tools and operate powered equipment including forklifts and other powered lifts;
- Must possess the ability to use and operate custodial equipment (e.g. dust mop, wet mop, vacuum cleaner - backpack and upright) and perform additional functions such as stripping, refinishing and auto scrubbing of floors; extracting carpets using truck mounted unit; and the ability to operate powered equipment such as a truck mounted carpet van, fork and scissor lift;
- Must have the ability to adapt to changes in the work environment, including but not limited to, schedules, work assignments, and priorities;
- Must have the ability to be organized and manage competing demands;
- Must have the ability to be flexible and adjust schedule and work assignments to address urgent operational needs or scheduling conflicts;
- Must have possess stress management skills;
