Rowan University, Department of Mechanical Engineering (ME), invites applications for an Instructor position (non-tenure track) for the 2016-17 academic year. We are searching for instructors who have an interest and expertise in teaching core mechanical engineering courses such as Statics, Dynamics, Strength of Materials, Machine Design, Thermal-Fluid Sciences, Intro to Mechanical Design, Materials Science and Manufacturing, and/or System Dynamics and Control. The successful candidate may also teach Freshman and/or Sophomore Engineering Clinics and engage in relevant service activities. Opportunities also exist for supervising student projects; supervising undergraduate and graduate research assistants; and conducting research to complement existing activities in the Department, College of Engineering and across the University.
The College of Engineering has innovative Bachelor of Science degree programs in Biomedical, Chemical, Civil, Electrical and Computer, and Mechanical Engineering that emphasize multidisciplinary experiences, teamwork, technical communication, and continuous engineering applications throughout the four years, as well as a Master of Science in Engineering degree program. The College of Engineering was created through a $100M gift from Henry and Betty Rowan and has continued to expand through the new South Jersey Tech Park. We have a highly selective student-centered undergraduate program. At Rowan we have a dynamic engineering college and are looking for faculty with new and innovative ideas. Multidisciplinary collaborations are a norm at our engineering college.
Major metropolitan areas within the Northeast Corridor are within easy reach of Glassboro. Philadelphia is a thirty-minute drive, New York City and Washington, D.C. are less than three hours away, and the Jersey Shore is only an hour drive.
The candidate should possess a minimum of a M.S. degree, a Ph.D. degree is preferred, in mechanical engineering and a Baccalaureate degree from an ABET-accredited engineering program (or equivalent).
Candidates should have a strong foundation in one or more areas of Mechanical Engineering, particularly mechanical design, mechanics and thermal-fluid sciences. Excellence in teaching is required. Industrial experience, interest in and ability to conduct research on teaching or engineering work are considered as a positive. In addition, the successful candidate is expected to have excellent written and oral communication skills.
The anticipated starting date for this position will be September 1, 2016.
