Minimum Qualifications: Associate's Degree in a science or health related field, or completion of two years of pharmacy technician experience (preferably in a hospital setting), or completion of a military/other formal pharmacy technician program provided the program encompasses a minimum of two years, and National Pharmacy Technician Certification required.
Job Standard / Operational Needs: Pharmacy Technician II fills medication orders and substitutes generic or alternate brand of drug based on approved practices. Working knowledge of more than 2000 drug entities including brand, generic, and chemical names is required in order to do this. Aseptically prepares sterile solutions and chemotherapy for parenteral administration. Working knowledge of sterile technique and manual dexterity to apply this knowledge is required. Computer Order Entry of medication orders for verification. Prepares, stores, and maintains inventory. Handles Controlled substances: stores in pyxis vault Loads in pyxis machines on nursing units and conducts audits to ensure accuracy and accountability of count. Troubleshoots pyxis related problems.
