The Columbia Genome Center, located at Columbia University Medical Center in New York City, provides high-quality and cost-effective services for next-generation genome and RNA sequencing and analysis, and state-of-the-art tools for single cell sequencing. Our users and collaborators include researchers in the Columbia University community, as well as investigators at other universities across the world and in the biotechnology and pharmaceutical industries. The Genome Center is equipped with state-of-the-art high-throughput sequencing and screening instruments. It has extensive collaborations with investigators at Columbia University in studies on biology, human diseases, and precision medicine. The successful applicant would join the Next-Generation Sequencing Lab, which is a co-shared facility with the Herbert Irving Comprehensive Cancer Center and is located in the Center for Computational Biology and Bioinformatics and Department of Systems Biology, a vibrant hub for interdisciplinary research. More information go to: http://genome.columbia.edu The Senior Staff Associate/Sequencing Operations Manager oversees all the lab operations and all its personnel, is responsible for formulating and implementing all the standard operating protocols, assuring quality and delivery time of service projects, troubleshooting issues, interacting with vendors, providing technical advices and support to users, and assisting Directors in technology development and production management.Responsibilities: - Regularly review and improve all protocols, implement new protocols and standardize our growing operation, implement new systems and software to further enhance our scheduling and operation performances and reliability- Manage all aspect of the lab research and clinical operations, including samples and projects tracking and scheduling, orders and inventory management, troubleshooting of instruments, manage vendor relationships- Interact face to face with our users on a daily basis, communicate about study design, samples qualities, projects scheduling, data release analysis, engage and listen to users' needs, articulate issues and shared understanding, facilitate collaborations with keys users- Lead a team, identify and interview new candidates, identify and implement trainings and continued education opportunities for the team- Review new technologies, maintain knowledge of latest developments, influence acquisition of new technology- Compile data, process analysis, and write reports to Directors on a weekly, monthly and quarterly basis|
Minimum Qualifications: Masters in a molecular biological science or related subject area.- Minimum 3 years experience pharmaceutical or biotechnology experience- In-depth understanding of molecular biology, genetics, genomics, next-generation sequencing technology, and bioinformatics- Hands-on experience in next-generation sequencing of different platforms ? critical- Demonstrated strong operational experience - Demonstrated ability to clearly communicate with users - The candidate must very organized and extremely detail orientated- Demonstrated ability to communicate, work in cross functional teams, and influence decision makers- Advanced proficiency in written communications is absolutely requiredThis is an opportunity for self driven individual with a strong operational talent to lead a lab in a Center with a growing footprint, and participate and help key cutting edge scientific developments that have high and critical impact on modern precision medicine.
