Purpose of Position:
This position is a senior-level, tenure-eligible faculty position. This position will have a key role in advancing the research mission and will be expected to work collaboratively with member of the Department of Medicine, Massey Cancer Center, Department of Healthcare Policy & Research and the Department of Health Administration.
1. Teaching – Trains medical students & residents in the clinic and/or wards. Mentors junior faculty.
2. Research – Directs a research program and complies with all regulatory requirements. Supervises research personnel. Write and submits multiple grant applications during the course of the academic year. Writes and publishes multiple manuscripts during the course of an academic year. Serves as a Principal Investigator on peer-reviewed grants and is responsible for complying with all institution and sponsors terms and conditions for grant funding. Ensures resources are utilized optimally for advancing the research program. Participates in Division of Internal Medicine & Massey Cancer Center applications and site visits as requested. Participates and engages other members of the Department of Internal Medicine and Massey Cancer Center in collaborative research projects.
3. Service – Serves on institutional committees, study sections, review groups, as a journal editor, or editorial boards.
4. Clinical – Attends on the inpatients wards, and/or sees patients in the outpatient clinic. Total clinical effort should not exceed 20%.
Required Qualifications: Board certified or eligible in Internal Medicine. Eligible for Virginia licensure MPH or equivalent training Seasoned physician researcher who possesses national and/or international recognition Appropriate level of administrative and solid research program experience commensurate with faculty position. Clear evidence of accomplishment in teaching, clinical and other professional activities and related administrative experience commensurate with appointment as a senior faculty position. A distinguished record of scientific achievement evidenced by both publications and a strong track record of extramural peer-reviewed research funding. Demonstrated experience working in and fostering a diverse faculty, staff, and student environment or commitment to do so as a faculty member at VCU.
Preferred Qualifications: Fellowship training in General Internal Medicine.
