We are seeking a creative and motivated postdoctoral fellow to join our lab within the Section of Computational Biomedicine, Department of Medicine at Boston University School of Medicine, and participate in our active research program aimed at using genomic approaches to understand the biology of premalignant lung disease. Current areas of interest include using high-throughput sequencing technology to discover gene and small RNA expression changes and alterative splicing events that are associated with progression/regression of premalignant lesions. Analyses will include characterizing differential gene and miRNA expression as well as splicing, utilizing network reconstruction algorithms to discover potential regulatory mechanisms, developing sensitive and specific biomarkers able to predict disease outcome and/or predict chemotherapeutic outcome, and integrating results with mouse data and other previously published lung cancer datasets.
Candidates should have or be close to obtaining a Ph.D. or equivalent degree in bioinformatics, computational biology, biostatistics, genomics, or a closely related field and have a strong interest in translational lung research. Applicants must possess excellent communication skills and be fluent in both spoken and written English. Critical thinking, problem-solving abilities, and the ability to work semi-independently as a member of a team are required. Experience analyzing next generation RNA and DNA sequencing data, knowledge of statistical methods, bioinformatics concepts/methods, genomic data tools and databases, and outstanding programming skills in R, perl, and Unix shell scripting are strongly desired. Current grants to the laboratory guarantee funding for the position through 2019, and the selected candidate will be encouraged to seek independent fellowship funding. Primary supervision will be by Dr. Jennifer Beane with opportunities for co-mentorship with Drs. Avrum Spira and Marc Lenburg.
