Job Description Summary:
The Department of Mechanical Engineering at Oakland University invites applications to a job-security track position at the rank of special instructor in the area of CAD/CAM. An earned Masters or equivalent degree in Mechanical Engineering or related field, demonstrated communications skills, and commitment to excellence in teaching, are required. Prior industrial and teaching experience in the CAD/CAM area is desirable. The successful candidate will be expected to teach undergraduate courses and laboratories and to work with faculty on course and curriculum development.
Oakland University is a public institution, located in southeastern Michigan, at the intellectual center of the Automotive Industry. In addition, the area offers many social, cultural and recreational activities.
Minimum Criteria as stated in Position Announcement: An earned masters or equivalent degree in Mechanical Engineering or related field, demonstrated communications skills, and commitment to excellence in teaching.
1. Preference given to candidates who have teaching experience in the areas of CAD/CAM
and mechanics. Prior industrial experience in the area of product design is also desirable.
2. Teaching Ability. Consideration will include:
a. Strong communication skills
b. Ability to teach such courses as CAD/CAM
c. Ability to teach laboratory instructional courses
d. Ability to incorporate modern tools and techniques into the curriculum
3. Ability to meet departmental needs. Consideration will include:
a. Teaching background and goals
b. Potential for interacting with local industry by offering short courses
c. Contribution to curriculum development
d. Potential collaboration with other faculty
