Job Description Summary:
To perform the day-to-day operations of the instructional programs in geology.
Essential Duties :
â¢ Teaches a minimum of three 96 contact hour geology courses each semester (both lecture and laboratory sessions).
â¢ Teaching duties to be divided as needed among geology courses offered.
â¢ Prepares necessary laboratory supplies and materials in advance of teaching sessions and returns unused materials to their appropriate locations.
â¢ Ensures that laboratory safety and cleanliness are maintained.
â¢ Provides instruction for courses at a variety of times and locations.
â¢ Demonstrates a commitment to student engagement, student success, and instructional excellence.
â¢ Maintains access to students through posted office hours and electronic communication.
â¢ Prepares and utilizes a course syllabus and assessments for each course using guidelines established by the institution.
â¢ Maintains current knowledge of effective teaching methodologies and utilizes a variety of instructional delivery methods, classroom media, and educational resources.
â¢ Advises students in academic matters.
â¢ Evaluates studentsâ performance through a variety of means to measure progress and keep them informed in a timely manner.
â¢ Assists in the development, distribution, and collection of assessments for courses and program objectives.
â¢ Provides recommendations to the Academic Dean, Assistant Dean, Department Heads, and Curriculum Resource Team regarding curriculum.
â¢ Demonstrates a positive and professional relationship with students, colleagues, college administration, and the community.
â¢ Submits timely college reports and forms to the appropriate divisions/departments.
â¢ Exhibits a commitment to lifelong learning through participation in professional development activities.
â¢ Possesses a passion for teaching community college students.
â¢ Demonstrates effective communication skills, both written and orally.
â¢ Attends college orientation and required institutional meetings.
â¢ Utilizes the college LMS to post grades and other course resources for students.
â¢ Attends departmental and division meetings.
â¢ Serves on division and/or college committees.
â¢ Serves as a mentor to part-time faculty.
â¢ Participates in program and curriculum review, course development, and revision processes.
â¢ Completes all course grading in a timely manner and according to college and program policy.
â¢ Responsible for other related duties as assigned.
â¢ Serves as lead course instructor as needed.
Teaching experience at community college or undergraduate level
Experience teaching physical and historical geology lecture and lab.
Training or coursework in geology pedagogy
Teaching experience in oceanography
Experience using D2L learning management system
Bachelor’s degree in geology
Ph.D. in geology
Salary Range: As per full-time pay scale
