Summary Description: Columbia University's Department of Medicine, Division of Cardiology invites applications for an Assistant or Associate Professor of Medicine at the Columbia University Medical Center to build precision medicine and human genomic programs in cardiometabolic disease. The successful candidate will have grounding and leadership in cardiovascular human genetics and molecular basis of complex diseases, human functional genomics and molecular biology, e.g. human induced stem cells and gene editing, rodent modeling of human disease, and/or human translational genomics, genome first phenotyping or clinical trials and/or programmatic return of actionable genomic data to patients. The candidate is expected to build a laboratory and/or clinical program in human cardiometabolic disease genomics focused on important heritable cardiometabolic traits, e.g. electrophysiology, heart failure, cardiomyopathy, plasma lipoproteins, coronary disease and cardiovascular/vascular risk, thrombosis, and insulin resistance/obesity and diabetes mellitus. Candidates should have strong clinical and teaching qualifications. Responsibilities will also include direct patient care, the supervision and teaching of housestaff (residents and fellows) and medical students and active participation in Departmental activities.
Minimum Qualifications: Candidate must be board certified or board eligible in internal medicine and Cardiology and must be eligible to practice in the State of New York.Post-doctoral and faculty experience in driving human genetic discoveries, functional genomics and molecular biology including cell systems and mouse models of human cardiometabolic disease.
Preferred Qualifications: Experience with analysis and bioinformatics of genome wide data (SNP-GWAS, exome/whole genome data, RNAseq, ChlPseq), e.g. in constitutional genomics; experience with primary cell and stem cell/gene editing tools in functional genomics; experience with mouse models or other model systems and in vivo genotyping of vascular and metabolic traits. Experience or exposure to genome based human phenotyping or trials, and return of actionable genetic results to patients. Independent drive to build an independent group in cardiometabolic genomics. Should be comfortable in a team science environment that includes laboratory, computational, and clinical applications and interactions.
