Position: The University of Minnesota invites applications for a tenure-track research and teaching position in Food Safety Microbiology at the Assistant Professor level in the Department of Food Science and Nutrition in the College of Food, Agricultural and Natural Resource Sciences.
Description: This food microbiology faculty position will be a nine-month tenure-track appointment involving research and teaching in the Department of Food Science and Nutrition. The successful applicant is expected to establish a vigorous, externally funded research and teaching program focused on food safety microbiology. The food microbiologist will be responsible for conducting research that addresses relevant food safety issues intended to detect and control pathogens. Areas of emphasis might include microbiomes, genomics of foodborne pathogens, novel methods of detection, viruses, non-thermal control technologies, microbial pathogenesis, nanotechnology approaches, natural antimicrobial strategies, and traceability of pathogenic microorganisms. Teaching responsibilities will include an equivalent of 2 courses per year in general microbiology, food quality and safety, and/or advanced food microbiology at the undergraduate and graduate levels. Advising will include undergraduate, M.S. and Ph.D. students from diverse backgrounds and cultures. The appointee will be expected to engage in collaborative research and teaching with colleagues in the Department, College and the University as a whole in areas intended to advance food safety and protection especially as related to the new FSMA HARP-C mandates. Appointment is on a 9-month basis with salary competitive and commensurate with educational background and experience.
