The Institute for Prevention Research (IPR) and the Department of Preventive Medicine at the Keck School of Medicine at the University of Southern California invite applications for a full-time tenure-track position at the assistant professor level. IPR and the Division of Health Behavior Research within the Department of Preventive Medicine include faculty who conduct research on the prevention of multiple social, environmental, and behavioral risk factors that are associated with the development of chronic diseases. Particular emphases are on youth, young adults, families, and tobacco control and regulatory science. Consistent with the prevention aims of the Norris Comprehensive Cancer Center Cancer Control Program, cross-cutting research themes include health disparities and equities research, development of new prevention methodologies and technologies, and health communications.
We are seeking a candidate with an active and funded research program that addresses the cross-cutting theme of health communications applied to prevention of chronic disease risk. The focus can include epidemiological research, preventive interventions, and/or health policy research. Research can include interpersonal, social media, campaign, public health, or other types of communications applied to prevention. The successful applicant is expected to develop a leadership role in communications, and collaborate with faculty in IPR, Preventive Medicine, the Norris Cancer Center, and the Annenberg School of Communications.
The successful applicant will be recruited as a faculty member in the Department of Preventive Medicine – Health Behavior Research Division. Academic programs in the department include degrees at the bachelors, masters and doctoral level. Tenure-track applicants must have a commitment and evidence of the ability to provide high quality teaching in the classroom as well as mentoring at the graduate and undergraduate levels. The department includes an outstanding faculty in health behavior research, epidemiology, environmental health sciences, global health, and biostatistics.
Minimum requirements for this position include a PhD, MD or Dr.PH with demonstration of extramural research funding and multiple publications relevant to health communications in high quality peer-review journals.
