The Area Director is a live-in staff member who works with the staff and students to develop a comfortable living and learning environment and assists individuals with their personal development. Carleton College provides housing for approximately 1850 students in eleven residence halls, twenty-six houses, and nine townhouse apartments.
As a member of the Residential Life staff within the Division of Student Life, the Area Director will serve in many capacities including the roles of a community builder, educator, adviser, supervisor, and administrator. In these roles, the Area Director works to shape the quality of the residential experience for the students.
The Area Director must be available to work evenings and weekends. They are also required to live in campus housing and to participate in the board plan. This is a full-time 12-month (.92 FTE) position, working and paid over 12 months with time off during student breaks. Compensation is annualized to $31,500. In addition, a furnished apartment within the assigned residence hall and a meal plan (during regular dining operation) valued at $13,632 will be provided, total compensation valued at $45,132.

The successful candidate has a Master’s Degree and previous residence hall experience. Priority will be given to candidates with additional experience in student government, campus activities, counseling, or other college student life experience.
