Virginia Western Community College, located in the heart of the Blue Ridge Mountains of the Roanoke Valley, is accepting applications for an Academic Success Coach. The Academic Success Coach position is a restricted, grant funded, professional faculty position that supports the TRIO/PATHWAYS program. This program is funded by a U.S. Department of Education grant. The Academic Success Coach position provides career and academic advising for first generation, low income, and/or disabled students participating in the TRIO/Pathways program. In addition, the Academic Success Coach provides academic development support to improve student success. Responsibilities include, but are not limited to: Plans and develops workshops, provides transfer, career and academic advising, monitors progress of students' non-cognitive and cognitive skills, advocates and promotes students' self-advocacy skills, collaborates with other student services departments and faculty to best meet student needs and ensure academic success, and maintains accurate records and reports.

Virginia Western Community College is a two-year public institution of higher education operating under a statewide system of community colleges. The College operates under the policies established by the State Board for Community Colleges and the Virginia Western Community College Board. The service region of the College includes Roanoke, Salem, Roanoke County, Craig County, southern Botetourt County, and northern Franklin County. Day, evening, and weekend classes are provided on a 70-acre campus located in Southwest Roanoke. Classes are also offered at off-campus locations in the area. The College was established in 1966 and has grown from an initial enrollment of 1,352 to its current enrollment of over 12,000.
