The Department of Global Health and Population (GHP) seeks to improve global health through education, research, and from a population-based perspective. A community of more than 300 faculty, staff, researchers, and students, GHP uses a transdisciplinary approach to improve population health worldwide.
The Communications and Events Manager works closely with GHP's faculty Chair, Director of Administration, faculty, staff, and fellows to increase the visibility of the department and maximize the impact of its research, education, and activities to key stakeholders within and beyond the University. This is achieved through the creation and dissemination of print and digital materials including web and social-media content, a regular newsletter, videos, appeals letters, and other formats that share who we are, what we're doing, and why it matters.
Reporting to the Director of Administration, the Communications and Events Manager is also responsible for creatively and innovatively developing and executing the communications strategy for GHP and the management of GHP's flagship events -- including developing the department's events policy and guidelines. Specific duties and responsibilities include, but are not limited to, the following:
- Working with GHP's leadership in the development of the department's communications and outreach plan, including defining the message, determining methods to communicate the message effectively to internal and external audiences, and evaluating the effectiveness of implemented strategies to adjust and revise as required for sustained improvement - Developing written materials for internal and external audiences in alignment with Department goals, including technical content, and leading the development of concept notes - Managing the department's social media pages and third party relationships - Providing communications advice and support to GHP faculty and researchers to enhance their vision and initiatives, including developing and ensuring consistent branding, messaging, and content across GHP's research programs - Launching targeted efforts to strengthen media relations and secure positive news coverage in local, national, and international media -- working closely with the School's Communication Office and Works, as well as the Harvard Public Affairs and Communications Office - Organizes multiple medium and large scale events per year that highlight the work of GHP, including the State of Global Health Symposium and Global Health Week; this includes the oversight of and delegation of tasks to temporary events staff - Contributing to other strategic plans and related special projects as assigned

- Bachelor's Degree required - 3+ years of related experience required
