The Office of General Counsel at the University of Cincinnati is currently seeking an Assistant General Counsel. This position will report to the Vice President of Legal Affairs and General Counsel, and will support the University's mission and commitment to excellence and diversity in our students, faculty, staff and all other activities. The Office of General Counsel (OGC) is a fast-paced, high-volume environment that provides high-level legal services to the University. The selected candidate will provide guidance and strategic legal counsel to a diverse group of leadership on a variety of legal issues. Some legal matters include management, public records law, employment law, contract review and negotiation, public procurement, compliance, privacy, constitutional law, student related matters, intellectual property, and immigration law. This individual will work collaboratively with other members of the OGC team. The successful candidate will also have litigation experience, the ability to exercise sound judgment, and works well under pressure.
Work with team in providing advice on a variety of complex legal matters in a fast-paced, high-volume environment.
Assist with review of and responses to public records requests.
Assist with employment law and Title IV related matters/lawsuits.
Negotiate, draft, and administer a variety of commercial and construction contracts, licensing agreements, leases, and other legal instruments memorializing the diverse activities of a large dynamic organization.
Utilize litigation experience to find non-litigation solutions to achieve contract compliance.
Provide legal advice and recommend courses of action to resolve legal, procedural, or administrative issues in compliance with applicable legal standards.
Conduct legal research and provide analysis, written and oral advice, and training as needed to keep the university and the members of the OGC team current on laws and regulations affecting assigned areas.
Supervise the work of outside counsel and coordinate with the Attorney General of Ohio on university legal matters as needed.
Other related duties as assigned.
J.D. degree from an ABA accredited law school
At least three (3) years' experience as a practicing attorney
Admission to Ohio Bar
Meet requirements for appointment as an Assistant Attorney General for the state of Ohio
Exceptional legal research and analytic decision-making skills
Proficient oral and written communication skills and strong advocacy skills
Strong interpersonal skills with a commitment to diversity and the ability to work with divergent personalities
