The Health Sciences and Human Services Library (HS/HSL) at University of Maryland, Baltimore (UMB) seeks an innovative, forward-thinking Data Science Informationist to develop robust research data-related services for UMB faculty, staff, and students. This dynamic Informationist will guide the Library's efforts in data management planning, discovery and access of research data, data sharing and publication, and data visualization. This position is a member of the Services Division, home to information services, research and education services, and bioinformation services. The Informationist will actively collaborate with faculty and staff within the HS/HSL and with partners throughout the University.
This is a part-time (50% FTE, 20 hours/week) professional position with benefits on a prorated basis. All work hours must occur during regular business hours, Monday through Friday.
Develop scalable library services related to the discovery, management, analysis, visualization, and professional presentation of data.
Identify innovative software and tools for the HS/HSL to license, supporting the discovery, management, visualization, and professional presentation of data .
Deliver expert consultations to faculty, students, and staff, emphasizing data through the research life cycle.
Build collaborative relationships/develop programming with UMB administrative units and academic programs within UMB schools (dentistry, graduate school, medicine, nursing, pharmacy, social work).
Lead dynamic in-person and online instructional programming.
Market and promote the HS/HSL's Data Catalog.
Participate actively in committees within the HS/HSL, the University, and professional organizations.
Pursue research and professional development activities.
Education: Bachelor's degree in a related field. (Master's degree in health sciences, social sciences, information science, or a relevant data intensive discipline preferred)
Experience: Three (3) years experience in information or data science.
The preferred candidate will have:
Certification in data science or advanced training in data handling.
Experience in an academic health sciences environment.
Experience providing instruction to a range of audiences, including faculty and students.
Experience with data visualization tools such as R, Tableau or D3.js.
Experience with human subject data de-identification processes.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, ABILITIES:
Knowledge of data discovery, analytical techniques, and statistical methods.
Knowledge of data repositories and public data sets.
Knowledge of software for statistical, quantitative and/or qualitative analysis.
Familiarity with best practices in research data management.
Ability to communicate complex ideas effectively and network with the University research community.
Demonstrated effective service orientation and skills.
Demonstrated ability to work independently and in a collaborative team environment.
Familiarity with HIPAA guidelines and human subjects-based research.
Hiring Range : Commensurate with education and experience
The target range for this position will be mid to high $20's.
