The Infection Preventionist (IP) helps to prevent healthcare associated infections by isolating sources of infections and limiting their spread. The IP is responsible for surveillance, rounding, analyzing, interpreting and the reporting of healthcare associated infections. The IP supports the development of evidence-based organizational infection prevention policies/standards that meet state, federal, regulatory and accrediting agencies standards. The IP trains healthcare members in infection prevention. The IP is a leader in infection prevention and serves as a resource, educator, researcher and proponent of change in order to influence infection prevention improvement to provide quality health care within the organization. The IP reports to the Director of Epidemiology, Infection Control and Prevention. The IP should have experience with operating room sterilization, surgical site infections, and NHS analysis.
Bachelor's degree in either microbiology, medical technology or nursing
Registered Nurse & active licensure in Pennsylvania if an RN
ASCP Registration if a Clinical Lab Scientist or Med Tech
Certification in Infection Prevention and Control
NHSN, TJC experience required
Computer skills and data management/analysis required e.g. Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Access, Outlook
EPIC experience preferred (if not EPIC one of the other electronic medical record systems required e.g. Cerner)
Sterilization and Surgical experience preferred
