A technical-management position which is responsible for providing operational direction and support for the College's infrastructure accounting systems security program within the Department of Information Technology. This position leads the section that provides key technical infrastructure information security and second-level customer support services for the College's electronic infrastructure appliances, telephone, VoIP systems, computers and related devices. Work assignments are usually received from project requests, the supervisor or self-initiated. This position is responsible for planning, designing, engineering, implementing, monitoring, analyzing, troubleshooting and managing the College's network physical and electrical infrastructure and associated security posture. These responsibilities require interaction with senior and departmental managers across the divisions for planning and coordination. Changes in College plans or implementation often requires information system security considerations and site-surveys (pre-planning), planning (such as cross-departmental coordination and schematic/diagram markup), and post-project documentation in the areas of system documentation. Other work requests come in as projects from committees and facility expansion/update efforts where infrastructure designs require temporary modification and/or permanent alteration to accommodate growth or changes in College activity.
This position is responsible for the security posture of the network and provides risk analysis document reviews, manages the identity management and access authorization program, monitors for security breaches, monitors Payment Card Industry (PCI) compliance, maintains and updates response programs and processes, evaluates and responds to cyber-attacks, and in some cases, gathers data and evidence to be used in prosecuting cybercrime. The Network Engineer participates in periodic strategic planning efforts and often serves as a resource to committees and other divisions/departments seeking to utilize automation to make tasks or processes more efficient while extending the reach of the College. This position responds to after-hours requests for network resource failure support. Some night and weekend work required.
