Information Technology Services (ITS) at the University of Wisconsin-La Crosse (UWL) seeks applications for a Senior Database Administrator. This position plays a significant role for database management and development. The position is responsible for the performance, integrity and security of all UWL databases and will also be involved in the planning and development of databases as well as troubleshooting any issues. The position also is responsible for conducting administrative tasks in PeopleSoft Campus Solutions. The position reports to the Assistant Director of Enterprise and Application Services in ITS.
This is a full-time, annual (12 month) position that includes a State of Wisconsin benefits package.
Bachelor’s Degree in a Technology related field from an Accredited 4 year College or University (or equivalent field related experienced).
Extensive experience in DBMS.
Working knowledge of networked systems.
Knowledge of Oracle database and MS SQL management and support including database configuration, installation, maintenance, monitoring, tuning, problem solving, security, backup and recovery.
Knowledge of the principles and techniques of database design methodologies, administration and client/server computing.
Knowledge of database tuning tools.
Knowledge of data modeling.
Database experience at the enterprise level.
The ability to handle multiple projects and work with multiple clients/groups with diverse, multicultural backgrounds in a positive, courteous manner.
Experience establishing and maintaining cooperative working relationships and working in a team environment.
The ability to take initiative, research and recommend strategies to solve problems independently, and to document the processes thoroughly.
Working knowledge of software that include Office suites that run in the PC Environment.
Excellent communication, customer service, and/or interpersonal skills– both orally and in writing.
At least 5 years of experience with DBMS.
At least 5 years of experience with relational databases including MS SQL Server and Oracle, including familiarity with stored procedures and database jobs.
At least 5 years of experience managing Linux server environments.
Knowledge of the principles and techniques of system analysis and software systems security.
