What are the ongoing responsibilities of a DevOps Solution Architect?
The DevOps Solution Architect plays an integral role in partnering with and providing solution architecture, design and technical expertise to DevOps Engineering, Investment Management Application Development and Operations to enable continuous integration and deployment. This role is responsible for designing and implementing next generation solution architecture, self service capability and automation in alignment with Franklin Templeton's Investment Management DevOps strategy.
As a member of the DevOps enablement team, the DevOps Solution Architect will be the subject matter expert for DevOps, cloud and infrastructure automation practices, providing coaching, guidance for application development and engineering teams. The ideal self-driven candidate will possess strong communication, leadership and versatile technical skills, along with a hunger for learning, understanding and internal client engagement with a drive to create new, impactful next generation solutions. Responsibilities include:
Provide subject matter expertise on DevOps best practices with cloud, automation and self service capabilities.
Design, architect and guide engineering implementation for next generation solution architecture, automation and self-service tools through cloud solutions.
Provide expert guidance to internal clients, application development and engineering teams driving solution architecture, business alignment and strategy.
Establish DevOps Adoption and Enablement Journey map by working with internal clients, development and application support teams.
Perform analysis best practices and emerging concepts in cloud services, DevOps, infrastructure as code, and enterprise security.
Responsible to keep up with the DevOps external community, trends and the applicability of new services into Franklin Templeton Investments.
Create and maintain applicable technical and strategic documentation, artifacts and collateral.
Qualifications What ideal qualifications, skills & experience would help someone to be successful?
Well experienced in key areas such as Cloud Services such as IaaS, PaaS and SaaS on major cloud hosting platforms (Microsoft Azure/AWS), Containerization (Docker, Kubernetes) and Infrastructure as Code toolsets (Terraform, SaltStack or similar).
Experience architecting, developing, and testing complex solutions to support distributed, scalable and highly available applications.
Core understanding of virtualization, private, hybrid and public cloud computing concepts
5+ years of progressive architecture / engineering experience including the following:
Strong systems platform skills in Windows (2012+) and Linux (RHEL 7+ and Ubuntu).
Experience with Powershell, Bash scripting and Java, Node.js, R, Python and C# languages.
Database understanding including MSSQL, MySQL and Postgres.
Strong understanding of DevOps, tools and Developer use of toolsets.
Automation and the development of automation and orchestration tools.
Continuous integration and deployment methodologies.
System and Network Security.
Monitoring, logging and the development of application, infrastructure and security monitoring tools.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills with users, management, technical and non-technical teams.
Bachelor's degree in Computer Information Systems, Computer Science, or an equivalent combination of education, certification, and experience.
Skills & Abilities:
Strong communication and internal client engagement skills, with the ability to educate and enroll business and technology customers on practices, technologies and solutions
Minimum of 5 years of experience of Cloud and DevOps systems architecture within agile focused organizations implementing complex solutions.
Demonstrated experience and expertise influencing to business decision-makers by reinforcing the value of cloud solutions
