About the Position: The office of Academic Programs oversees undergraduate studies, general education, health professions, and graduate studies. We are committed to student success and providing students with opportunities to grow intellectually and socially. We are seeking an exceptional individual to join our team as the Assistant Vice President, Undergraduate Studies and General Education. The ideal candidate in this role should have a positive attitude, an active, energetic mind, and a leadership style that is characterized by highly ethical practices and a commitment to diversity, openness, flexibility, integrity, and kindness.
The Assistant Vice President of Undergraduate Studies and General Education (GE) reports to the Associate Vice President of Academic Programs and will direct and administer undergraduate education and GE planning, curriculum and pedagogy development. The Assistant Vice President works in partnership with the Academic Senate and its committees, the colleges and their deans, and academic departments and programs. The Assistant Vice President, along with the Academic Senate, implements, develops, drafts, revises, and recommends university practices, policies and procedures relating to undergraduate education and GE and interprets them for students and faculty. Collaborates with other offices within Academic Programs, Academic Affairs, and Student Affairs to support both curricular excellence and projects and programs that provide a rigorous, high quality education for all CSUF students. Acts independently within functional and organizational policy guidelines. Responsible for overall administration of Undergraduate Studies and GE and oversees the campus Scheduling Office, Catalog Editor and Curriculum Analyst. These key staff report to the Assistant Vice President and help build, file, distribute and archive the new and changing curriculum within the campus curriculum management, distribution and storage systems. Participates in setting department strategy and accomplishing divisional objectives. As the campus-wide advocate for undergraduate education, the Assistant Vice President of Undergraduate Studies and GE will provide leadership for the development and implementation of a high quality curriculum and pedagogy that supports the CSUF Mission and Strategic Plan. Other duties as assigned.
Essential Qualifications: Doctoral degree from an accredited college or university. Academic credentials expected of an associate, full-time professor, with the possibility of retreat rights in an academic department. Two to three years of successful leadership experience at the departmental, college, or university level (e.g. department chair or vice chair, university or college committee chair, or similar). Demonstrated experience or clear potential for leadership in academic collaborations and collegial shared governance. Demonstrated ability working effectively and collegially in teams and in diverse settings. Adept at managing emerging issues. Excellent verbal, written, presentation and critical thinking skills, and high standards of organization and professionalism.
A background check (including a criminal records check) must be completed satisfactorily and is required for employment. CSU will make a conditional offer of employment, which may be rescinded if the background check reveals disqualifying information, and/or it is discovered that the candidate knowingly withheld or falsified information. Failure to satisfactorily complete the background check may affect the continued employment of a current CSU employee who was conditionally offered the position.
