You will be responsible for the following tasks as a General Mechanic in Facilities Campus Operations:
● Operating, maintaining, repairing and installing building mechanical and HVAC equipment at a journey level. ● Changing filters ● Replacing sheaves, bearings, shafts, couplings, motors, actuators, valves, controllers, sensors, instrumentation ● Diagnosing, troubleshooting and overhauling all types of HVAC equipment including compressors, air handlers, pumps, motors and other similar and related equipment ● Performing preventative maintenance on HVAC equipment

Four years of full-time experience in a trade under a skilled journey-level position which would provide training equivalent to that given in an apprenticeship program. Apprentice training in a trade or training gained by the completion of technical courses in a trade at a school or institute may be substituted for the above experience on a year-for-year basis.
Successful candidates in the position must be able to effectively communicate with coworkers, supervisors and the campus community. This position may require you to work in a team so the candidate should have strong interpersonal and teamwork skills. The candidate must possess and have proven positive customer service skills; must also possess good listening skills and be able to understand and follow written and/or oral instructions.
Candidates must possess a working knowledge of electrical and electronic controls, plumbing and steam fitting.
Candidates will be required to explain and demonstrate their skills and competency for this position.
Since the activities of other employees depend upon the availability of the employee in this position, reliable attendance is a factor that will be considered when filling this vacancy.
This position requires traveling within and between campuses. A valid license to operate a motor vehicle in NYS is preferred, or candidate should otherwise demonstrate his/her capacity to meet the transportation needs of the position.
● Universal Refrigeration Certification and refrigeration experience are extremely beneficial in being considered for this position. ● Willingness to work overtime and holidays, sometimes with little or no advance notice. ● A minimum of Type 1 and Type 2 Classification for Refrigerant Transition and Recovery Certificate is preferred. ● Andover Controls and/or Siemens Controls systems experience is highly desirable.
