The Department of Health, Physical Education, and Exercise Science at Augsburg University invites applications for a tenure-track appointment in its Exercise Science program to commence Fall 2018. The department seeks a highly qualified individual who, in addition to exercise science experience and expertise, will advance curricular alignment with university-wide values of social justice, urban education, diversity, and inclusion. The department especially seeks individuals professionally and personally committed to educating typically underrepresented minority and first-generation exercise science majors.
The Exercise Science program at Augsburg University is an undergraduate program, offering Bachelor of Arts and Bachelor of Science degrees. There are currently over 100 students in the program who are prepared for an allied health science professional school or graduate school (30%) or prepared for entering the fitness/sports industry (70%).
Teach lower and upper division courses in the department, e.g., Exercise Testing and Prescription, Advanced Fitness Training, Exercise Physiology Labs, Components of Fitness Training, Anatomy/Physiology. Teaching assignments are based upon the candidate's training and expertise.
Carry out an active research agenda.
Collaborate with faculty in the department on curricula, assessment, and department projects.
Advise students in the major.
Mentor students outside of the classroom (e.g. major's club, internships, and student-faculty collaborative research).
Service to the life of the University and department.
A doctoral degree in a directly related field.
Prior teaching experience in higher education.
Experience in a lab, clinical, or professional setting directly related to exercise science.
Current knowledge in technology, best practices, and recent trends in the exercise science field.
Pedagogical approach consistent with Augsburg's priorities on access, inclusion, and civic engagement.
Background in epidemiology or physical activity behaviors preferred.
Advanced fitness certification (e.g. Certified Strength & Conditioning Specialist) and professional affiliation.
