The University of Maryland, Baltimore (UMB), School of Medicine (UMSOM), Department of Anatomy & Neurobiology has an excellent opportunity for a detail-oriented, Entry-Level Budget Analyst . The Budget Analyst will enter, analyze, and report budget information for a basic science department. The successful candidate will import data from the campus on-line financial system to Excel, manipulate and analyze the data with excel tools including pivot tables and import the data to the department shadow system. Other responsibilities include monitoring budgets and financial expenditures of federal, non-federal research grants, state, and foundation funds for completeness and accuracy and conformity with agency regulations, financial forecasting, reconciling electronically and completing financial reports.
Responsible for preparing, analyzing and reporting statistical data for departmental budgets, while maintaining this information and coordinating all necessary files into a united budgetary and financial forecast.

Examine a variety of financial statements for completeness and accuracy and conformity with fiscal policy.
Perform line by line trend analyses and financial forecasts of departmental budgets.
Prepare statistical data and reports for use in budgetary evaluation maintaining downloaded data to coordinate necessary computer files.
Manage time sheet processes.
Prepare journal entries, updates electronic financial systems including grant award notices, salary and operating expenses.
Participate in special projects including setting up Kuali Coeus and assisting faculty with grant submissions.
Serve as department liaison with campus departments in order to ensure compliance with post award requirements.
Perform other related duties as assigned.
Education: Bachelor's degree in accounting, finance, economics, business administration, and/or related coursework.
Experience: Two (2) years of related experience.
Except for qualifications established by law, additional related experience and formal education in which one has gained the knowledge, skills, and abilities required for full performance of the work of the job class may be substituted for the education or experience requirement on a year-for-year basis with 30 college credits being equivalent to one year of experience.
Preferred: Prior experience working with Excel, providing accurate data entry, proofreading, and utilizing technology to produce time sensitive documents is preferred.
Experience with online campus/company financial systems and managing departmental shadow systems preferred.

Possess knowledge of advanced business math and computer knowledge including the creation and manipulation of spreadsheets and pivot tables.
