Union/Fair share deductions may be made.</p><p>Work Hours<strong>: ** This is an EVENING position. **</strong><br />Academic: Monday-Thursday 3:30pm-12 midnight, Friday 12:30pm-9pm (fall and spring semesters)<br />Summer: Monday -Thursday 11:30am-8pm, Friday 9:30am-6pm<br /> <br />Position Overview<br />This Library Assistant 3 position provides evening student supervision and information services in the Physical Sciences and Engineering (PSE) Department, and coordinates course reserves and binding services for the East Bank Campus Libraries (Walter Library, the Mathematics Library, and the Architecture Library). This position works closely with East Bank operations staff and PSE liaisons to contribute to the overall goals of PSE and the Libraries, and has responsibility for staffing the Walter Library and other East Bank service points.<br /><br />JOB DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES<br /><br />Reserves (30%)<br />-Coordinates all aspects of process to place requested print materials on Course Reserve including assisting faculty and teaching assistants by communicating options and outcomes.<br />-Collaborates and coordinates with the Reserves units across the University Libraries to ensure continued development of best practices, effective operations, and appropriate communications for Reserves Services.<br />-Accepts reserve requests. Provides support for processing materials to be placed on Course Reserve.<br />-Secures materials from appropriate libraries and recalls needed titles, works with faculty to add/modify courses.<br />-Creates and adjusts records using the Reserves Direct course reserve system.<br />-Collaborates and coordinates within the Physical Sciences and Engineering department to ensure continued development of best practices and effective operations for Reserves Services.<br />-Coordinates requests for videos with SMART media services staff.<br />-Discharges inactive reserve material including personal copies.<br />-Creates temporary bibliographic records for non-library-owned items for course reserve.<br /><br />Binding Operations (20%)<br />-Oversees all aspects of binding operations for the East Bank libraries (Walter, Math, and Architecture), including managing binding quota, using binding software to process shipments, and updating library records.<br />-Assesses and repairs damaged books such as page repair, tip-ins, loose covers, etc.<br /><br />Student Supervision (20%)<br />-Provides support to evening student workers at Walter Library, Math Library, and Architecture Library, including training, coordinating coverage in the event of an absence, and assisting with patron questions and issues.<br />-Provide direction and leadership to student workers and library patrons when faced with emergency situations. Work with Security Monitors and others as appropriate.<br />-Monitors student work, provides appropriate feedback, and documents and communicates work-related issues.<br />-Works with students to improve performance, and resolves student personnel problems.<br />In coordination with daytime student supervisor, develops student training materials to communicate policies and procedures using multiple methods of delivery (online, in-person, etc.)<br /><br />Information and Access Services (10%)<br />-Staffs the service desks at Walter Library (and at other East Bank Libraries when needed) to provide reference, information, and access services that require judgment and informed appraisal of the user’s needs, based on thorough working knowledge of relevant library policies, procedures, tools, and facilities. Continuously develops skills related to subject and new collections, materials, and e-resources.<br />-Serves as front-line staff for digital information services, answering questions in the campus-wide chat, email queues, and making referrals as appropriate.<br />-Assists users from a variety of cultures and communities in use of online and print materials.<br />-Promotes best practices and high standards for customer service.<br />-Assists users with library equipment and technology (e.g. printer, scanner, ValuPort, etc.)<br />-Creates and renews Public Workstation Access cards for guest users.<br />-Serves as backup to staff in the SMART Learning Commons and branch libraries to assist users with software and hardware, and to troubleshoot technology issues.<br />-Helps other library units with user support needs and related training as assigned.<br /><br />Stacks Management (10%)<br />-Oversees daily operations and management of stack services including paging, shelving, shifting, shelf-reading, pickup, stack maintenance, and troubleshooting complex problems.<br />-Monitors stack growth and recommends ongoing or special shifts to provide adequate growth space for collections.<br />-Develops detailed plans for shifting collections to provide growth space.<br />-Communicates with Manager, Director, Collections, and Facilities staff to coordinate stacks planning, issues, recommendations and collection shifts.<br />-Trains student workers on stacks maintenance tasks such as shelving and shelf reading.<br /><br />General Department Support (10%)<br />-Assists with planning, preparation, and logistical support for events and exhibits. Provides orientation and tours as assigned.<br />-Keeps current with technological and software advances within University Libraries and applies this knowledge to support library functions/activities.<br />-Contributes ideas for improving unit and departmental policies, procedures, and services.<br />-Serves on Libraries-wide groups and committees as assigned.<br />-Provides backup support as needed for other activities of the department.<br /><br />The Employer retains the right to change or assign other duties to this position.</p>
<p>MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS<br />-Five (5) years of relevant library experience.
