<p>The senior access assistant position works with students and staff to provide equitable access across campus and provides specialized assistance as required.<br /><br />In general, a senior access assistant can expect to spend variable amounts of time on the following tasks:<br /><br />• Provide 1:1 physical access assistance for a medical school student;<br />• Under direction and instruction of medical student, provide assistance with moving light objects and creating accessible pathways within exam rooms and other physical tasks such as lifting limbs or strength testing.<br />• Provide assistance for other students, staff, and faculty as assigned;<br />• Assist navigation of inaccessible course content or materials, such as providing visual description of pictures/graphics or submitting materials online when course technology is inaccessible;<br />• Fulfill note-taking and lab assistance requests;<br />• Assist testing coordinators by proctoring, scribing, and reading exams as assigned in the Testing Center;<br />• Work with the Document Conversion unit of the DRC to convert materials as needed;<br />• Back-up the DRC receptionist;<br />• Train student employees;<br />• Attend DRC and OED all-staff meetings;<br />• Other duties as assigned.</p><p><br />This is a full time, 12 month, position with benefits. </p>
<p>ESSENTIAL QUALIFICATIONS:<br />• High School Diploma/GED and one year of related office/clerical experience, some college coursework can substitute for some of the experience.<br />• Must be comfortable interacting with patients in clinical health care settings;<br />• Ability to work with others;<br />• Attention to detail;<br />• Organizational skills;<br />• Flexible and accommodating;<br />• Excellent communication skills (written, verbal and listening skills);<br />• Able to maintain boundaries (i.e. when scribing and reading without tutoring, explaining, or coaching);<br />• Must be comfortable taking notes in class and working independently;<br />• Desire to work with students and staff members with a variety of disabilities;<br />• Familiarity with computers (both PC and Macintosh) and accompanying software applications.<br /><br />PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:<br />• Background in pre health science programs, e.g. nursing, medicine, PT, or OT<br />• Experience in clinical health care setting;<br />• Training/education may substitute for some experience;<br />• At least one semester of experience as an access assistant;<br />• Experience with people with disabilities;<br />• Ability to learn new computer software quickly;<br />• Creative problem-solving skills.</p>
