Reporting to a postdoctoral fellow in the Silver lab, the Research Assistant will construct bacterial strains and perform experiments to study synthetic biological circuits. This will include designing, executing and validating cloning strategies and testing strains. The successful candidate will also conduct assays using microscopic, biochemical and fluorometric techniques including microscopy and flow cytometry. Opportunity may also include mammalian tissue culture and transfection. The Research Assistant will analyze the data, produce written documentation, and prepare short reports of this work. The successful candidate will also participate in lab maintenance in support of this project including ordering and preparing reagents, maintaining and establishing records for plasmid and strain databases and other responsibilities as needed.
This position is grant-funded for one year.

1+ years working experience in biology, bioengineering, biochemistry or related field with relevant work experience in an academic or industrial setting. Relevant coursework may count towards the experience requirement. Demonstrated knowledge of laboratory techniques such as molecular cloning and microbiological culture.
Bachelor's Degree preferred. Experience with biological hypothesis testing and statistical methods for data analysis. Strong written and verbal communication skills.
