We have an exciting opportunity to join our team as a FGP Medical Assistant (35). (Schedule/Shift: Thursday 8:30 AM - 4:30 PM)
In this role, the successful candidate under direct supervision, performs routine technical duties in Pre-Admission Testing (Phlebotomy, EKGs, assists with v/s, weighing in of patients); related to direct and indirect patient care
Performs clerical work related to EKGs including but not limited to copying, completing requisition slips and placing information in the patients chart. Performs electrode placement. Performs limb and chest leads.
Performs phlebotomy on assigned patients as set by departmental procedures. Cleans the area and secures the tourniquet. Locates an appropriate vein from which to draw blood. Completes preparations prior to starting the procedure; follows protocols and uses sterile techniques. Inserts the needle accurately into the vein and draws the blood properly. Draws the correct number and types of tubes in accordance with the requisition. Completes all blood drawing assignments during assigned shift in a quality fashion. Strictly follows departmental and standard operating procedures. Label all specimens promptly and accurately. Disposes of used needles in the appropriate containers after immediate use. Carries out safety and sterile procedures.
Follows emergency protocol call for help immediately if patient passes out, develop acute distress, loses conscious, or is suspected of being in cardiac arrest. Notify RN/NM and Anesthesiologist if EKG reads abnormal.
Call RN/NM immediately if patient shows any form of resistance or discourteous behavior that interferes with completion of procedures.
Prepares patient for testing. Observes patients and determines patients mental and physical state prior to performing venipuncture and EKG. Based on patient condition may instruct a patient to lie down on a stretcher bed or recliner chair.
Prepare all necessary supplies and equipments required. Ensures all exam room are in sanitary and properly supplied condition. Have all necessary materials/supplies available during testing. Follows departmental policies and procedures.
Greets the patient in a courteous manner by introducing self and calling the Patient by name. Ensures that the name on the requisition is acknowledged by the patient. Inputs statistical data/compiles results/generates management reports. Complete the verification before a procedure is started.
Always verifies the identification of the patient before preparing the patient for venipuncture and EKG.
Escorts patients into examining room when necessary.
Takes vital signs as required. Performs EKGs and venipuncture as ordered.
Follows isolation techniques as outlined in policy and procedure manual. Applies principles of infection control as outlined in Infection Control Manual in performance of patient care.
Weighs patient as assigned and records same. Follows isolation techniques as outlined in policy and procedure manual.
Performs activities related to direct patient care under supervision of the RN/NM.
Performs other duties as assigned.
To qualify you must have a Upon hire or entry into the position, must hold a current Medical Assistant Certification from an accredited institution.
