<p>Title: Health & Nutrition SHIP Educator,<br /> Statewide Health Improvement Partnership (SHIP), Cass County</p><p>Classification: Extension Program Associate 2 (8316A2)</p><p>Program Area: Extension Center for Family Development</p><p>Office Location: Cass County Health Human and Veteran Services Building, Walker, Minn.</p><p>Position Duration: Funded through 10-31-2020</p><p>Application Deadline: Review of the application will begin March 5, 2018; position will remain open until filled</p><p><br />ABOUT THIS POSITION<br />This Health and Nutrition (H&N) Educator position is contracted by Cass County Public Health to fulfill the goals of their Statewide Health Improvement Partnership (SHIP) grant. SHIP focuses on increasing physical activity, improving nutrition, and reducing the number of people who use tobacco or are exposed to it. For more on SHIP, visit: http://www.health.state.mn.us/divs/oshii/ship/about.html </p><p>This position will utilize the resources and support from both the University of Minnesota Extension and the statewide SHIP network to provide coordination and technical assistance to advance health public health initiatives within Cass County organizations and the community. Examples of types of organizations this position will work with include: school districts, agencies that work with adults with developmental disabilities, agencies that work with emotional and behavioral health issues, food shelves, multi-housing units and agencies serving seniors. This position provides technical support in Cass County to promote comprehensive wellness that includes healthy eating, active living, tobacco prevention, and lifestyle/stress management.</p><p>This is a full-time position. The person in this position will report to the Extension SNAP Ed Regional Coordinator. The person in this position will travel frequently across Cass County, and the office will be located at the Cass County Health Human and Veteran Services Building in Walker, Minn.</p><p>RESPONSIBILITIES <br />Program Management (60%)<br />*Partner with agencies, businesses and organizations to support initiatives focusing on increasing physical activity among county residents, improving access to healthy food options, and reducing the number of people who use tobacco or are exposed to it. <br />*Develop and implement county-level data collection to facilitate and assist with Cass County SHIP evaluation and reporting. <br />*Identify and facilitate training opportunities appropriate to support policy, systems and environmental (PSE) changes. <br />*Navigate and follow Cass County as well as University of Minnesota work policies, protocols, and culture<br />*Work closely with other SHIP staff and collaborate with the Community Health and Environmental Services (CHES) SHIP Coordinator. <br />*Gain familiarity with, develop working relationships with, and participate in staff meetings and trainings with Extension Health and Nutrition and Family Development colleagues as a means of gathering and promoting resources, expanding programming, and learning skills and best practices. <br />*Assist in grant writing and work plan development, as needed.</p><p>Communications/Community Relations: (40%)<br />*Provide presentations to community partners, elected officials, and decision-makers.<br />*Conduct informational presentations and agency outreach to individuals, groups, and organizations based on grant outcomes. <br />*Developing cooperative relationships for coordination with community partners in Cass County. This includes facilitating community meetings, leading strategy sessions with community partners, and participating in collaborative efforts.<br />Serve as a resource to the community and agency staff on overweight/obesity, physical activity, nutrition, and tobacco prevention issues; work with other SHIP efforts as assigned. </p><p>Other Responsibilities Assigned as Needed<br /><br />APPOINTMENT<br />This is a full-time, Civil Service position as Extension Program Associate 2 (8316A2). This position is temporary and funding ends 10/31/2020. This position is funded by the Cass County SHIP Grant. <p>REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS <br />*Bachelor's Degree in health, nutrition, public health, or a closely related discipline and two years of experience in teaching, community organizing, community health promotion, or community education OR a combination of related education and experience totaling six years.<br />*Demonstrated experience with applying or integrating research-based knowledge into program design, delivery, and evaluation across a variety of educational platforms.<br />*Demonstrated experience engaging with communities related to health and nutrition issues, and adapting programs to meet audience needs.<br />*Demonstrated knowledge in implementing innovative public health approaches to promote policy, system, and environmental changes related to improving nutrition and increased physical activity.<br />*Demonstrated experience in establishing, building, and sustaining partnerships and collaborations.<br />*Demonstrated skills in planning, organizing, and problem solving, and successfully handling multiple tasks under pressure of deadline.<br />*Demonstrated ability to work effectively with individuals, organizations, and/or communities representing new, culturally diverse, economically diverse, and underserved audiences.<br />*Respectful and professional communication style, with excellent written and verbal communication skills.<br />*Strong computer skills including: high level of comfort creating documents in Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint; competent keyboarding/data entry skills; experience doing internet searches; experience using email; and the ability to lead web-based communication and training. <br />*Valid driver's license and reliable vehicle with required liability insurance, for frequent travel within Minnesota and infrequent travel outside Minnesota.<br />*Personal cell phone that can be used, as needed, for work purposes.<br />*Ability to maintain a flexible work schedule, including occasional evening or weekend work, to meet the special needs of programs.</p><p>PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS <br />*Master's degree in health, nutrition, public health, or a closely related discipline.<br />*Experience working in a program that serves individuals experiencing issues and challenges related to living on a limited income.<br />*Ability to speak a second language in addition to English.<br />*Experience developing outreach strategies and marketing tools to reach diverse audiences.<br />*Experience using distance technologies and social media to market and deliver educational programming.</p>
