LeTourneau University invites applications for adjunct faculty members qualified to teach in the undergraduate online computer science and cybersecurity programs at LeTourneau University. Adjuncts are needed to teach classes for Fall 2018 semester. Some of the courses are full semester and some are five week courses. We are specifically looking for applicants with expertise to teach the following course(s):
COSC-1303 Computer Science I - An introduction to the field of computer science. Problem solving strategies, basic data structures, and an introduction to algorithms in the context of a modern programming language. A first course in programming with an emphasis on scientific and engineering applications. Class 2. Lab 1.
COSC 2103 – Computer Science II A second semester study of computing principles. Abstract data types, object-oriented programming concepts, and introductory topics of graphical-user interfaces, unit testing, and file structures. Students hone their problem-solving skills through a variety of programming assignments. Class 3. Prerequisite(s): COSC 1303 or consent of instructor.
COSC-3503 – Operating Systems - An introduction to the principles and concepts of operating systems to include process management, memory management, and storage management. Emphasis is placed on learning the principles and then applying them in various systems programming exercises. Class 3. Pre or Corequisite(s): COSC 2033 or COSC 2203 .
COSC-3603 – Networks and Data Communications – An introduction to the principles and concepts of network-based communication between software processes. This includes the organization of WANs and LANs, the function of gateways and routers, and the use of protocols at the application, transport and network layers. Emphases is placed on the TCP/JP protocol suite. Exercises focus on studying network traffic and developing TCP and UDP based client/server programs. Class 3. Prerequisites or Corequisites: COSC-2203
COSC-4553 – Information Security - Principles and concepts of information security to include cryptography, access control, protocols, secure software, and forensics. Emphasis is on learning the principles and then applying them in various programming or hands-on scenarios. Class 3. Prerequisite(s): COSC 2033 or COSC 2203 .
Required Education and Experience:
Master’s Degree (Doctorate preferred) in Computer Science or a related field, with at least 18 graduate hours of credit in the discipline.
Strong command of the English language with excellent written and oral communication skills.
Two to three years experience teaching adult learners online in higher education preferred. A professional commitment to student-centered learning with a record of successful teaching, mentoring and coaching of adult learners.
Skill in use of personal computers and appropriate software applications (Email, Canvas Course Management System, Presentation Software and Spreadsheet Software).
Supportive of leadership direction, policies, and procedures; team-player contributing to comradery within the faculty and department.
Agreement with Christian Statement of Faith and institutional policies of LeTourneau University. Positive, cooperative and Christ-like attitude supportive of the University and its mission.
Provide inspirational and motivational instruction of the subject matter.
Post weekly announcements detailing assignments and expectations.
Daily Canvas access to monitor students’ progression in the course.
Respond to student e-mails, questions, and comments within 24 hours.
Weekly posting of specific, meaningful, depth-oriented questions in discussion forums to foster student interaction and depth of understanding of the subject matter.
Post grades and provide quality feedback for assignments within 4 days of submission.
Communicate with program Chair concerning problems or potential problems with students.
