Energy Management's goal is to cost effectively minimize Cornell's energy use and associated environmental impacts. The Energy Management staff work to identify and implement conservation focused outreach, maintenance, energy studies, and capital projects to meet the university's needs with less energy use. The program includes all of the Ithaca, NY campus; Geneva Experiment Station and other off-central campus facilities in the region.

The Utilities section of Energy and Sustainability operates the University energy infrastructure system on a 24 hour, 365 day per year basis. Production facilities include a combined heat and power facility which provides both the steam for heat and electricity for campus. All of the water for campus is provided by a university owned potable water filtration plant. Electricity from the local utility is fed through a university owned electric substation. Utilities is also responsible for all of the distribution and collection systems located on campus including steam, chilled water, electricity, potable water and waste water.
What you will do:
You will provide engineering, energy analysis, project management, technical support, and customer/stakeholder support for the University's energy conservation program. You will also lead the commissioning of new and recommissioning/continuous commissioning of existing buildings to assure that adequate design features are incorporated for energy conservation.
This position will require you to lead and participate in multi-disciplined project teams to review, identify, evaluate and recommend energy conservation technologies for incorporation into building designs and standards. You will need to have engineering skills and knowledge of building HV AC, controls and electrical systems required in order to perform energy audits on buildings and systems. You will help develop building energy use models and provide education to the campus community to promote energy conservation means. You will need to be able to use computer analysis tools to analyze building and plant systems, perform cost benefit analyses; and prepare documents for approval of funds. This position is responsible for managing project design, construction, and commissioning, while maintaining the project budget and schedule to successful completion as well as coordinate and prepare energy conservation studies.
The Energy Engineer will function as part of a team of professional staff within the department and the University dedicated to cost effectively managing and minimizing the use of energy in the buildings and utility plants.

What we need:
We need a highly motivated individual who demonstrates the IPP organizational values of truth, respect, teamwork, integrity and excellence. Additionally you will have:
A Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or technical equivalent
A valid driver's license
More than four years previous experience in mechanical or electrical engineering or equivalent.
Knowledgeable and demonstrated experience of mechanical, electrical, and control systems in administrative, academic, and research facilities.
Demonstrated experience performing and managing engineering, planning, construction, and maintenance related to industrial/utility mechanical and electrical systems.
Experience in using energy and building systems related software programs.
Ideally, you might:
Be a Certified Energy Manager (CEM).
Have a New York State Professional Engineering (PE) license, or the ability to secure (obtaining this license is required within 5 years of hire).
