DEPARTMENT Clinical Advocacy SUPERVISOR Director, Clinical Advocacy
Develop and educate physicians about the variety of health care delivery models in both the private and public sector. This will involve the identification and analysis of different health care delivery models and the establishment of policy surrounding the clinical and attributive aspects of quality improvement, patient safety, and performance measurement. Analysis will include how the changes from fee-for-service to value-based care impact the practice of medicine. Candidate will work as part of a team to identify, develop and produce education, programs and tools needed to help physicians be successful in a dynamic medical market place.
Build relationships external to the organization in order to gain expertise in health care delivery. Use this information to determine how physicians and their practices are affected by an evolving health care landscape. Create an inventory of health care delivery models and evaluate practice model opportunities. Coordinate with TMA staff and others as appropriate to develop policies, education, resources, and tools to support physicians in the organization and delivery of quality health care services.
1. Research health care delivery models, clinical initiatives and programs, as well as identify practice resources, tools and strategies, that advance the best patient and population health outcomes. 2. Analyze, develop policies, and educate physicians on health care delivery models, programs, and practice strategies such as, integrated care models, accountable care organizations, patient-centered medical homes, direct primary care, innovative care models, bundled or episode-based payment models, alternative payment models, clinical quality and value-based care programs, telemedicine, telehealth, population health management, clinical initiatives, and others. 3. Serve as a subject matter expert on health care delivery and provide staffing support to the TMA Council on Health Quality and its subcommittees. 4. Build physician relationships with payors, health systems, employers, and business coalitions in Texas regarding best practices and opportunities for care management and population health. 5. Perform other related duties as directed or required.
While this position functions in a team environment, duties are performed independently under general supervision. Assignments are complex and may vary greatly. They require the exercise of independent judgment and initiative. Working with staff in various departments and divisions is necessary to achieve assigned objectives.
GENERAL QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS
Knowledge and Experience:
Must have knowledge of the health care arena including, physicians, clinical and practice staff, medical practices, hospitals and health systems, health policy and health care reform, Medicare, Medicaid, private payors, health care organizations, accreditation entities, regulatory agencies, and professional associations. Knowledge of quality and cost metrics, physician performance measurement, and value-based payment methodologies is preferred. Experience working as a team member on intra-organizational and inter-organizational projects is important. Excellent writing, analytical, organizational, and presentation skills essential. Must have bachelor's degree in health care, nursing, business, or related field. Three to five years experience in health care analysis or practice management, ideally as a health care or physician practice administrator, or relevant work in the health care industry. Graduate degree and/or relevant health care certification(s) are a plus.
Skills and Abilities:
The ideal candidate must have strong writing, analytical, organizational, and presentation skills, and be able to initiate, develop, and manage multiple tasks concurrently in a fast-paced environment with strict attention to detail. Must have excellent interpersonal skills which allow one to interact well with individuals internal and external to the Association. Must be proficient in Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook. Must have the ability to participate in evening meetings on occasion. Position involves minimal travel with some overnight stays.
