Job Description Details:
Interpreter will provide interpreting, transliterating, and translation services (if qualified), as needed for Deaf, Hearing Impaired and Limited English Proficient (LEP) patients and staff throughout Mount Carmel Health System. The interpreter will adhere to an exemplary code of ethics at all times; to include the highest regard for patient confidentiality. Coverage for this service will be 24/7 and will incorporate fulltime, part time, and casual interpreters as needed.
Sign Language Interpreters must be able to demonstrate their abilities as part of the interviewing process and show knowledge of ethics and an appropriate level of skill .
All interpreters must demonstrate proficient communication skills in two languages (English being one).
Interpreters must have dependable transportation to travel to all MCHS campuses and affiliated locations as well as county-wide private practice locations.
Interpreters should have prior experience in diversity, inclusion, and/or cultural competency in the healthcare setting as well as education or training in Cultural Competency.
Interpreters should possess in-depth knowledge of EEO-1, CLAS Standards, Joint Commission Standards relating to language access, Title VI of the Civil Rights Act of 1964, and Title II of the American with Disabilities Act 1990.
Sign Language Interpreters must be degreed (Associates or Bachelors) and have at least one year of interpreting experience (practicum or professional) with preferred specialization in medical interpreting when possible.
Licensure / Certification: Certification preferred but not required.
Experience: Spoken Language Interpreters must have a minimum of one year of paid professional experience in medical related interpreting preferably in a hospital setting and be able to pass a competency test in spoken language skills and the ethics of interpreting as part of the hiring process and every three years afterward.
