The Cloud Platform Engineer provides leadership for Wellesley’s systems administration (local, co-located and cloud) including identifying gaps, impacts and risk associated with current and proposed solutions, and building business cases for decision making. This position provides the skills and experience required for the successful planning and implementation for system security, business continuity, and industry best practices. This position is also responsible for remaining informed of emerging campus systems priorities, and recommending strategic steps to address them. As a member of the SysNet team, this position participates in a wide range of projects, and delivered services.
Leads the development and implementation of Cloud Services and LAMP stack administration. Identifies gaps, strategic impacts, financial impacts and risk profile of proposed solutions. Builds business cases to help decision makers prioritize systems improvements, including the transition to cloud computing.
In collaboration with the systems and networking team, helps develop and implement a comprehensive systems and security architecture that recognizes the interconnectivity between Windows, Linux, NetApp, Network and cloud infrastructures.
In collaboration with the systems and networking team members, documents a comprehensive view of all systems and services both on premises and in the cloud, tunes and configures applications, and ensures system performance with system monitoring and analysis tools.
In collaboration with a team of LTS staff members, leads the development of business continuity plans, and security solutions. Will also be responsible for keeping it updated and performing periodic table top exercises.
Builds and sustains relationships with members of LTS and systems administrators in the Wellesley user community. Provides guidance on best practices for faculty and departmental servers. Serves on committees to represent Systems and Networks, and be informed of emerging priorities.
Participates in the work of the group including, managing projects that improve the delivery of service to all constituents of the user community, administering enterprise SaaS applications such as Google Apps and providing redundancy for Windows systems administration, Active Directory, and network administration.
5+ years experience in information technology service delivery
5 years supporting central Linux systems. Advanced Linux System administration of multiple systems in a virtual environment is required.
Bachelor’s degree and/or equivalent experience, preferably in an information technology related field.
Experience in virtual computing management experience such as VMWare. Experience in provisioning and troubleshooting virtual servers.
3 years experience in provisioning and managing Linux systems in the cloud such as AWS. Knowledge of Google Cloud Platform will be considered a plus.
Strong knowledge in networked file systems such as NetApp, networking protocols, Samba, NFS required.
Experience in configuring single sign-on (SSO) solutions and multifactor authentication and strong understanding of related protocols such as CAS and SAML configuration and troubleshooting is essential.
Strong knowledge in administration of Apache, MySQL, PHP required. This should include installation, configuration and troubleshooting skills in all of these systems. Knowledge in administering a web content management system such as Drupal will be considered a plus.
Strong knowledge in data and network security such as log analyzers, setting up firewalls in Linux systems.
5 years managing technical projects, including large-scale implementations and/or upgrades, and the management of parallel projects
Experience supporting technologies in a team environment
Solid knowledge of and experience with cloud computing, IaaS, PaaS, SaaS, and cloud design.
VMWare expertise. Certification a plus.
Solid knowledge of and experience with network concepts and protocols.
Ability to work efficiently and cooperatively with a team in a multitasking, interrupt-driven environment.

This position provides an essential technical leadership role for the College. Because of the centrality of Wellesley’s systems to the College’s daily operations, this position plays a critical role in ensuring the effectiveness, efficiency and productivity of the entire community—faculty, students and staff.
This position has broad access privileges to applications and to data, and must operate in accord with strict standards for exercising those privileges. A record of impeccable integrity is required.
Due to the nature of supporting systems and network services, work hours outside of the normal College workday will be required. Regular on-call and remote support are expectations of all members of the Systems and Networks team.
