Position Summary: We have an exciting opportunity to join our team as a Laboratory Assistant(Research).
In this role, the successful candidate Responsible for cleaning glassware in all participating labs (Smilow Research Building, Medical Science Building, Alexandria East and West Towers, Public Health Laboratory, and Varick Street) by cleaning and maintaining autoclaves, dryers and washers. Assist in the production of in-house reagents. Assist with Vendor Program. Provide general research support service to all participating laboratories.
Frozen Sample Protection: Clean or replace condenser filters in freezers. Aid with defrosting of freezers and consolidation of contents. Help with delivery of frozen samples from offsite storage.
Interact with users as needed to guarantee customer satisfaction.
Perform and maintain adequate records of QC on in-house prepared reagents and solutions.
Maintain the Reagent Preparation laboratories consistent with best practice for laboratory operation
Interact with users as needed to guarantee customer satisfaction
Keep records of production, sales, and turnover of solutions and goods.
Manage stocks and distribution of Reagent Prep Room products.
Order chemicals and supplies as required; maintain adequate stocks of supplies and chemicals to ensure uninterrupted services.
Responsible for preparation of culture media, reagents and solutions for the participating buildings.
Additional duties as requested (on an as needed basis).
Filing and record keeping of ordering forms.
Hand washing of specialty items not fit for machine washing
Upon delivery, check for accuracy of quantity and type of items ordered.
Place orders for sufficient supplies necessary in washroom.
Sweep and wash washroom shelves, furniture and appliances
Leave neat work area following completion of daily activities.
Maintain logbook and report damaged glassware according to established criteria.
Return clean glassware to labs.
Maintain glassware labeling according to instructions
Clean, dry and sterilize glassware according to instructions.
Daily collection of used glassware and pipettes from labs.
Minimum Qualifications: To qualify you must have a Must communicate in English and be able to follow instructions carefully. The successful candidate should be responsible, have a good work ethic, demonstrate teamwork and cooperate with co-workers. Lifting and pushing is required.
Qualified candidates must be able to effectively communicate with all levels of the organization.
