The Front of House Catering Operations Supervisor manages all levels of service staff that provide hospitality service in a fast-paced catering operation serving over 3,500 events yearly. Develops service standards that reflect Brown Cateringâ™s commitment to excellence. In addition, participates in daily oversight of both front- and back-of-the-house catering operations, including at the Faculty Club. Ensures proper level of service staff at events.
Additional responsibilities to include:
Manage the Catering Banquet Captains and oversee front of house service staff
Mentor, support and lead Captains as well as part-time and temporary Leads and Servers
Oversee training and development of Captains as well as adherence to standards, policies and procedures
Develop motivational and recognition programs for service staff
Active member of event operations team, ensuring customer satisfaction in the delivery of service
Review functions sheets and identifies staffing needs for all upcoming events
Oversee execution of events
Address internal challenges in providing the product & service to customer
Serve as liaison with temporary staffing agencies to request and assign temporary catering staff
Issue uniforms and provide orientation to temp servers and interns, reviewing all policies and procedures
Develop training programs that address the needs of all labor groups, continually refining to adhere to operations procedures
Coordinate external training programs such as bar service and food safety
Oversee administrative functions related to events
Support the execution of large and/or VIP events for Brown Catering, including Commencement, Orientation, Corp Weekends, Homecoming, as well as for the Faculty Club in whatever capacity needed
Responsible for effective and efficient communication and followup at all levels
Minimum of two years of supervisory experience in hospitality, preferably in a catering environment, and Associate degree in HRI or a related discipline, or equivalent combination of education and professional experience
High degree of communication, leadership and training skills
Exceptional customer service orientation
Excellent food and beverage knowledge and a passion for the industry
Ability to create a positive, collaborative, team-building environment.
Organized and possessing good time management skills
Good problem-solving skills and ability to think on oneâ™s feet
Well-groomed and professional
Ability to perform all positions within catering operations (set-up, delivery, liquor service/control and supervision of staff)
RI Food Safety and Bar Code certification preferred, or willingness to obtain such certification upon hire is required
Brown Catering operates seven days/week throughout the year. We execute everything from coffee breaks to black tie dinner. We serve all segments of the Brown community including a diverse student population, as well as the public at large. The position requires flexibility and the ability to adapt to change. It also requires the ability to both lead and motivate a team of Banquet Captains and build relationships with staff at all levels to ensure the smooth execution of catered events. Success requires dedication, creativity, passion and a can-do attitude. It will require early morning, night and weekend hours as dictated by business needs. Events are staged throughout the campus so the position also involves some walking.
The salary range for the position is $38,400 - $43,000.
