The Web Applications Manager is a technical management position with dual roles: supervision and coordination of the Information Technology Services (ITS) Web Applications Team; and technical practitioner/consultant for high impact enterprise Web services.
This position reports to the Director of Enterprise Services and supervises a professional staff of two Application Developers, as well as a team of student mobile application developers (AppDev). It is the Manager’s responsibility to ensure, often in collaboration with ITS project managers, that the Team’s assignments and projects are completed in a timely manner and that appropriate quality and security standards are maintained. The Manager, in consultation with the Director of Enterprise Services, administers team resource management and provides supervision, mentorship, and guidance for the Team.
From a technical perspective, the Manager has responsibility to operate, maintain, administer, and develop Web-enabled campus services and other emerging technologies that provide access to, and integrate data with, campus-wide administrative and academic systems. This is most commonly through the college’s intranet, browser-based interfaces, learning management system, community portal, content management system, Web-enabled applications, and mobile technologies.
An additional key role the Manager plays is primary technical coordinator for high impact enterprise Web services, most notably as development advisor for the Office of Communications, who have responsibility for the college’s public-facing Web presence, www.grinnell.edu. More broadly, the Manager may coordinate Web-enabled services utilized by other administrative units within the college; interact and collaborate with students, faculty, and staff; and will be required to use effective communication, customer service, troubleshooting, and organizational skills.
